So all of you guys with the added weight of LT kits, bigger tires, and whatnot.... are you all noticing a improvement in stopping capability?

This is a redundant question, but I would still greatly appreciate you all's feedbacks.

To be honest, for my daily driving usage, I only noticed a marginal improvement over the Centric rotors and Porterfield pads that I ran with the stock calipers. The initial bite when braking isn't as strong so come spring time, I plan to swap to more aggressive pads. I will probably go with Porterfield again.

One of the main reasons why I picked up this kit for for towing, but I haven't had a chance to tow anything since the upgrade.

I also wanted to add that maybe I was expecting more from the kit. Years ago, I have a 2004 Silverado with a Baer 4-piston BBK and that thing stopped on a dime. Brake dust was crazy, but it stopped like a sports car. It was a street truck and I'm sure the ZR rated tires played a big role in the performance compared to the MT on the Tacoma now, but I was hoping for more with this 6-piston kit.

Which pads came with the kits?

Did you bed the pads in? Mine was kinda shitty on initial bite too until I went out and bedded the hell out of them. That and I had to bleed the fronts several times to get all the air out.

Mityvac makes a few different brake bleeder kits that make very short work of bleeding the air out of the brake lines.

It wasn't lines. It was air in the calipers. It happens with brand new calipers. I normally bleed, drive/bed, and then bleed again once they cool down. Tapping the calipers with a dead blow helps too.

Ah, okay. I don't think I've ever run into that issue before, then again I can't remember the last time I had to replace a caliper. I appreciate your response.

    On another note,
I do have to hand it to SOS. I wanted the black calipers, and by the time I ordered the black was out of stock. SOS stayed in communication with me via text and even sent me a second set of pads for waiting the 3 weeks while they got black back in stock. All in all, really good customer service.

Yeah! They are super fast at communicating.

They said a 16" kit is possible with two price rotors because it's the size they need for the 16" only comes that way.

If that becomes a tangibilty, droves of people will buy the brake kits.

I apologize if this was previously discussed, but what are the advantages/disadvantages of a two-piece rotor?

For our application it's mostly a disadvantage. A two piece rotor would be more expensive and also more expensive to maintain.

They do offer the non TRD branded 4 piston kit that fits 16" wheels.

It was the Stoptech brake pads. I'm not sure which version it is. I did bed the pads in real good and very aggressively. I installed speed bleeders when I did the calipers and I wasted a lot of fluid. There fluid was nice and clear and no air was left that I could see.

If I compared them to the stock calipers and pads, it would be a big improvement. However, since I was already running aggressive pads and quality rotors, the jump in performance wasn't much more. I do know that they'll fade less when I'm hard on them so that's a plus.

^ Good to know as I was on the fence on these. I have upgraded Rotors & Pads and they do a decent job for daily driving with weekend adventures. I was looking for an upgrade with these or the Lexus brake swap route. I don't tow anything really and to drop this much coin just for the bling factor is not going to cut it for me. I don't have that much additional weight that warrants this upgrade like some of the overland guys.

    Great deal indeed though.

Good Review as I upgraded to 17" rims to figure out a new brake upgrade.

I agree with @SCSPerformance that the initial bite is less than aggressive pads on the stock setup. But I think if you get the same aggressive pad with this this setup you will have a significant braking improvement. Think of the pads that come with the kit as "stock" pads, so you have great power but not the initial aggressive grab that performance pads do. The only draw back with this kit and aggressive pads is getting them to warm up enough to have them be efficient.

^ Gotcha. . . That makes sense to upgrade the upgrade. We all do it in different aspects of our trucks. I feel this is a great upgrade for those who need it and at the price point as well. Just for me, it's an upgrade that will have to really wow me in order to spend that kind of money.

I appreciate the insight and real world reviews from people as well. JBerry seems to get the response from the kit as I believe it's the extra weight that assist in providing that stop. I am more set up like Vin and his review is geared more towards me as I have an upgraded set up already. I've had past BBK set ups on other past vehicles and the wow factor is there. I'll dabble more and think it over as I do want to upgrade my brakes.
