Just want to let you know we finally got some snow and I tried your method, with the clutch all the way depressed in neutral. I think for the first time in 10 years of ownership, my truck has for the first time been engaged in 4LO, without the beeping. Thanks for your help and it seems to be working, even after all these years without being fully engaged.

    Wow... 10 years?!
Note to everyone: Beeping is bad.
There also is a 4 LO Light that comes on only in L4.

These details are all in your owners manual... and then there is the card in your sun visor (note #5-1):

My problem was that I wasn't fully depressing the clutch, so it never fully engaged without the beeping. I thought the beeping was a warning that you weren't in 4HI. It's so nice being in 4LO, without the constant beeping now....LOL (but kind of sad too it took so long)

I'm happy that I didn't have a stuck actuator or problems with 4LO. The 4LO light was on before, but I think the clutch not being fully depressed caused the beeping and it did feel like I was in 4LO before, but with the beeping.

hell yeah. I honestly hardly ever use 4hi, bout the only time i use 4hi is on icy / snowy roads... but anything off road that requires 4wd, im in 4lo, much easier on the motor n trans.

Actually come to think of it the ONLY time i have ever flipped to 4hi for extended periods off road was in the desert where speeds were above 40mph... and the ONLY reason why i was in 4hi and not 2hi was to lock the front and rear axles together as under braking the rear locks up before the front which makes the ass end wanna come around.

My 6 sp. is very sensitive about this. It simply will not engage in 4lo if the pedal is even the slightest bit off the floor. I tell others with the issue to make like you are going to push the pedal through the firewall...

That is what happened when I was in 4HI and wanted to go to 4LO. I had to depress it as far as I could for it to switch. The strange thing is I can feel it switch into 4LO, but will beep if not depressed enough. You would think with it beeping that you aren't in 4LO, so maybe it needs good contact, even though it still engages when you don't fully depress the clutch??
