I'm looking for other options to my rooftop magnet mount K40, fell off at Citrus a while back. Have looked at this mount and wondered about the grounding plane, with this setup can you hear others very far away? What setup are you changing to?

The hood mount worked really well. Not sure on distance as I only relied on it for communication that was less than a mile away. But, on roadtrips- I'd hear stuff all over the place.

I've switched to a handheld for now. In the future, I'll get a Mag Antenna.

I have basically the same setup, and for some reason when out wheeling I pick up broadcasts from CRAZY far away, that nobody I'm with can hear. It's all stuff outta Louisiana and Texas that's gotta be super amplified or bouncing off the atmosphere. Nobody else hears it, but on the last trip I finally had others in the vehicle with me that heard it and could vouch for hearing it.

I'm also the one that hears others first, even if they can't hear my response. It's a pretty solid antenna and setup if you have a good ground.
