Ya, that one's stock, but blacking out the emblem is a nice touch. I never have liked flashy chrome, hence why I debadged mine.

I think the 3rd gen was a hastily-made, rushed product. Not even a clean-sheet redesign. After testing both gens extensively, I think the 4.0 is a more satisfying motor drive because you get torque down low. I wish I had the gen 3 interior though.

Yeah I wish I could fully debadge my truck, the badges on the tailgate were put on there with some ridiculous glue I couldn't get off, they are blacked out though. Also the front emblem was replaced shortly after that pic was taken with a plasti dipped one, the one on there was painted and had gotten all pitted.

well said, for sure there are lots of 3rd gen that look great and have no problems, I will be checking out the 2018 and hopefully we can get a OR here in Canada with the 6 foot box and the DBL cab.

I had a 2014 dcsb, went in for an oil change, got suckered by a salesman " looking to make room" on a 2016. Sweet looking truck( dcsb Trd off road, quicksand), but I couldn't get over the way the tranny worked! Just awful! And could have done without the creeper mode and multi terrain, both seemed useless and overkill. Well, buyers remorse set in, and I resigned to live with it. The universe had other plans.
A drunk driver plowed through my front yard, and took out my son's corolla and my truck in one shot, both totalled! I had made one payment!
Went to a Ford dealer to buy my son a beater car for college, told the salesman I was looking for a second gen Tacoma for myself, and he told me someone had just traded in a 2015 with 24k. DCSB OFF ROAD SPORT!
Even though it's a year older, it runs and handles better, without all the useless gadgets, bells and whistles.
It was the truck I had wished I had gotten in 2014.
Truth that the universe takes care of people sometimes.

I like sleeping in my canopy when I'm camping, the 5 foot box isn't going to cut it. When we were in Moab some bad weather hit and I was warm and dry sleeping in my canopy, while my buddies had a less than peaceful night sleeping in their tents.

    Same as everybody else...
I agree, my previous truck was a 99 Ranger. Big enough to haul me and a plus one and small enough that nobody ever asked to borrow it to move. That truck was bullet proof, took me nearly 200k miles with no major issues.I recently gifted it to a buddy of mine who was without wheels so it's still rolling as his DD. If Toyota or Ford made a classic single cab version of the Taco or the new Ranger I'd buy one.

Just curious, do you mean a TRD Sport?

Yeah, in my defense, it was late, and I'm not gonna lie, I was drunk.

I love my 2014; don't ever plan on getting rid of it. Local Toyota dealer where I bought it has been calling repeatedly to buy it back. Nope, not gonna. just can't get past the looks of the third gen.

I recently tried out a couple of 17's. I wasn't interested when the 16 was released given it was the first year of the model change. Resale is so good on these trucks that I seriously considered trading up to a 17. But in the end, I have opted to keep the 15. Yes the 17 is a new fresh look and it does come with some new features that I would love (sunroof, power rear window mainly) but for me, it comes down to what is under the skin.

What I didn't like was how sluggish the new powertrain combo felt. The tranny was always hunting and when I made a comment to the dealer about it, they quickly shrugged it aside with a pretty lame explanation of just running it with the ECT mode off and using a heavier foot. Hunh? You could tell that they are very much aware that it is a common concern. My wife and I both found the new interior to be cheaper made. It feels like it was rushed and built using inferior material.

When I bought my 15, I did so wanting a truck that would last 10+ years. The 4 litre and 5 speed tranny are rock solid and with regular maintenance will absolutely and easily exceed 10+ years. I am not convinced with the longevity and repair needs of the new powertrain in its current form. I may reconsider when it's the last year of the Gen3 and they move to Gen4 but until then, my opinion is that the Gen2, although more simple, is the better built truck. There is something to be said about the saying "less is more".

i love NOT having a car payment and being relatively debt free more than owning my actual 2006 tacoma. my truck is getting old and creaky..it has weird clunks and sounds..

i love my truck..sure. but would i love a new rig? yes. no damn way i am chasing that rabbit down the hole. i have friends that have never experienced zero car payments..they ALWAYS have a payment. they get close; poof, buy a new rig and start over again. no thanks.

I am in the same boat, I bought my 2006 used but paid it off early having no payments is great, yeah there's the occasional creak or clunk with my truck but I recently got a new frame and I am sure the dealership would have tried to take my money if anything was seriously wrong with anything else. Plus I still love the looks of it. New cars and trucks have crappy lines, too many angles to them.

Agreed 100%. Feels so good to NOT have a monthly payment and instead putting that money elsewhere (savings, retirement, new car sometime down the road, whatever). I am hoping to remain payment free now for a very long time
