Pretty much it's whole job is to support the upper springs as they compress.

OME 885 coils, Dakar leaf pack, Bilstein 5100 struts, SCS Matte Jet Black SR8 wheels, 265/75/16 Toyo Open Country AT II, Arrow cap, Truxedo Truxsport Tonneau cover, TRD Exhaust, colour matched grill.

Here's mine with OME 885 front and Dakars in the rear. Bilstein 5100 on all four corners. I will eventually get a set of 887 coils to lift the front a little higher, a little too much rake for me.

Thanks for the info! Seeing that I have an access cab though, I may stick with the 885's because I know my truck weighs just a little less up front and will see a little more lift (likely) from the 885's than your double cab. It looks awesome though!

    Hey guys,

I have an 2002 Tacoma Xtracab SR5 4wd 4cyl. I have Bilstein 4600s for the front and back brand new in the boxes (all 4 shocks). It has occurred to me that the rear leaf springs should be replaced (negative arch under no weight besides shell). I'm not looking for a lift per se, other than what might automatically occur from replacing old shocks and springs with new ones for my purposes. The truck is used as a main vehicle, split about equally between paved roads and dirt roads, with a little bit of old logging paths (off road vehicle needed) for work and a bit of heavy hauling sometimes.

Maybe a simple question, but still quite a noob with suspension and can't seem to find an answer after searching the forums for quite a while. If I put the 4600s on the back to replace the worn out stock shocks and put OME CS046RB and CS046RA to replace the leaf springs, will this cause any problems with the 2.25" lift that the OME springs claim in combination with the Bilstein 4600s in the rear, or should I swap the 4600s with 5100s? There will be constant weight of a fiberglass shell and 200-500 lbs additional weight in the truck (besides me) with more weight when hauling, of course.

Or can I remove some springs from the OME leaf packs and keep the 4600s?

First of all, this is how all questions should be written. Very specific on what you need.

Here are my thoughts, but I am sure I'll be corrected by those who might know better. The OME dakar packs gave me a little over 3 inches. I also have a 4cyl access cab btw. I can't think of anyone every only getting 2.25" of lift that I have heard of. You can, however, take leafs out to lower the lift height. The shell will bring you down, but I bet only 1/2" or so (others with specific experience can say better than me).

I also have the 5100s and they are just long enough when I flex out. I am thinking the 4600s would not work out for you. If you take some leafs out of the pack, I am guessing the 4600s might be ok.

What are you going to do in the front? That would be some crazy rake

I'm going to go ahead and just exchange the 4600s for 5100s, then I guess remove a leaf or not from the OME packs after I order them, I suppose.

Not exactly sure about the front yet, I'm just gathering information and parts at the moment. I think I can get pro-comp 2" spacers for half the retail price, maybe I'll use those for now and get proper coilovers later? Whaddya think?

As a former 1st Gen owner, I recommend the 5100s. I found these posts informative regarding shock lengths: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/5100s-vs-5125s.155232/page-3#post-3128402 and https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/5100s-vs-5125s.155232/page-2#post-3128139.

New coils are a better way to go than spacers. FWIW, I was very happy with on my '04 Xtracab. Alternatively, offer the ability to adjust ride height by preloading the stock coils.

There's a lot of good info in the Suspension forum, especially, the Tacoma Lift FAQ/Guide and Suspension Lift Info stickies.

I got some bad lean on my rear. Drivers side is about 3/4" off. When I installed my dakars I got both plus instead of one - and one +. Could this be the culprit? If I take a leaf out the passanger will it affect the purpose of the weight capacity I can haul?
