I have owned only American cars for my 60-some years, until July of 2016, when I bought a new 2016 Tacoma SR5 (black) access-cab pick-up. In all previous years, I had grown accustomed to finding a "HELM.INC" application form on the last page of the "owners manual", which I had always filled out & mailed, which to my mind was a quasi-obligation of any tech-oriented car-owner. It never occurred to me that buying a Toyota would change this process, but now I see that I had been clueless about buying a truck from a non-American (parent) company. I have seen posts on other sites saying that I could forget about buying a paper hard-copy of a 2016 Tacoma FSM. So, since this is my first post to the TacomaWorld site, I invite all members to weigh in on this post.

The last new vehicle I bought was a 2004 Highlander. Not long after, I scored both volumes of the FSM.

Still have the vehicle, daily driven. 115k on it now. Had a taillight bulb fail a couple years ago. Have replace the brake pads once and a battery once. Didn't need the manual for those.

I did open the manuals once. To to figure out how to disable the DRLs that I had not ordered that SE Toyota chose to gouge me for.

Enjoy your truck, use your warranty if needed, don't fret over the manuals.

I'm not quite sure what the question is?

In the past I've typically had a Chiltons or Haynes book on what I was driving, but in recent years I've not bothered. I'm typically able to find a DIY video or forum post for anything I need to know.

For example, have you looked at the 3rd Gen DIY maintenance quick reference sticky thread at the top of this forum? It covers a lot of the bases for most DIY stuff we'll be attempting.
