I think this is something electrical (wiring harness, sensor) that is being impacted by the water from washing under the hood. Maybe a manufacturing defect as others stated before and/or possibly something that has loosened up a bit or become exposed during use. It really sucks that your truck is so sensitive to this. I definitely wish you luck.

This thread needs to lighten the fuck up. Let's talk about rogue waves:

Also, I'm not sure where they got my yearbook photo. Oh wait, we were too poor for me to have braces so this must be someone else.

i didn't say how far a way the wave crested. But ya, I would assume that wave would leave a mark.

Yea. everyone seems to be so stuck on the wave, and not looking at everything else. The truck fixed itself after the wave initially. it wasn't until 2 days later after I washed it. 2nd time there was no water at all on my trip. After making it to the northern most point in my trip I circled back, got some gas and started driving towards Tahoe, via Reno NV, roughly 4 hours, I stayed the night in Tahoe and drove home the 2.5 hrs south. truck was very dusty as the route was very dry and passed through some previously burned out areas, and the Ishi is known to be hot and dry. No issues until the day after once unpacked, I sprayed the truck down. Dead. And now this third time.

The wave isn't the issue, at least not now. lol

Salt water is very conductive. I could see how salt water, at least initially, may find a way to bridge electrical connections improperly while leaving behind salt once evaporated off to readily bridge those same connections again when sprayed down.

    Here's a fun little experiment.

But it only happens following a trip it seems. I've washed the truck. AND the engine (following the second instance they blamed the lights, I went crazy on the engine trying to prove them wrong) and haven't had a issue

I know this is a strange request, but can you post a video of how you're pressure washing the truck? You admit you are a little excessive, but I really need to see a video so we can all judge :)

That's why I wanted to show every one how big..ahem.. I mean small the wave was.

I still have a hard time with the dirt in fuel, as I believe we all end up with crap in the tanks that we get from gas stations. When you wash it, only do sections and track what happens. But I'm with the this truck is not for you and you need to get out of the lease.

You all act like I was driving down in the surf. I was up on the beach, ride was rolling in. The wave was already broken, and I got hit by the edge of the water, with the foam.

i guess the ultimate question is.. where is the sand coming in from..

also if i were you.. just terminate the lease and get another tacoma or move up to a tundra.. i seriously doubt you will have the same problem with another toyota truck..

Just dropping this in here and leaving, maybe someone else suggested it 1200 posts ago lol...

Maybe get a locking gas cap to rule out a saboteur?

It was suggested and then the concern of that could be next to blame because its not an OEM cap.

And then they'll say someone dumped sand in it.

If I told them I swapped it, they'd blame the non OEM cap lol
