Hey guys, been dying to upgrade my 2004 Tacoma for awhile it's the Prerunner Doublecab. I've done a shit ton of research and for right now for a cheap decent lift I would like to add 5100s on all 4 corners and a 1.5 shackle to the rear. I have a few questions, will this even work? Also so if I crank the 5100s to 2.5 I'll have a level truck with a 1.5 shackle correct? Off-road wise it will be fine I'm hoping? Mainly looking to get some bigger tires under and give me a little more performance off-road while I save up for a mid travel kit:). So if you guys could give me some feedback that would be sick

What size tire are you wanting to run?

Honestly man I don't know maybe a 275? But most likely a 265/75/16. I've seen the debates over what can fit but I would just like a decent tire to give it that aggressive look and performance I'm running 255/70/16 right now

No need for a lift with 265/75-16s.

I know I want to level the truck out too and give it a small lift can I fit bigger with that kit?

Sure, a bit bigger. Might be a hair nose high if anything.

You think? Should I go to a 2 inch shackle then? Or will it not be noticeable really. Will I have to relocate the exhaust ?

Running bigger tires isn't about the amount of lift you have, unless it's just for looks and you only drive around on the street. Regardless of how much you crank up some 5100s, when the suspension articulates, the tires will go up in the wheel wells, and will rub. If you want bigger tires, and actually plan on using them, you will need to trim/cut/adjust/smash the offending pieces to get them to fit, such as the fender liner, pinch weld, fender flares, possibly sheet metal, etc.

5100's will ride like a dump truck if you crank them up very high. I wouldn't go over 1" for a lift shackle, combine that with 5100s and you're asking for back problems. You'll find that the most capable vehicles on here have fairly low lifts, and are modified appropriately for their tire sizes (some of the best trucks are running no lift at all).

IMG_3080.jpg I have bilstein 5100s all around with the front set at 2.5. Honestly i dont really see a huge difference in the ride besides it being a bit stiffer which i actually like. But in the back, i have a 1.5" progressive aal from Wheelersoffroad and my truck has a slight rake when it is unloaded in the back.
I'm on 33x12.50s right now but I'm gonna downsize to 265/75r16s soon cause i didn't wanna cut any more than i already have.

Have you considered just going thinner so you don't have to buy new wheels (33x10.5)?

Idk ive really debated it but i think they would still rub a bit and i would still be able to run the 265s if I decided to go back to stock height

I have the 5100s at 2.5 but a 1.5" aal in the rear. It has a very slight rake which is better than it being nose high, so id say around 1.5 would be good.

However, every truck is different depending on the engine (mine is the 4 banger 2.7) and cab (mine is an extended can) and how much the original coils and other stuff is sagging. Also if you have any armor or a load in your bed.

What are the shackles that ur looking at cause my brother is running some rough country shackles or something in the back and rides pretty stiff compared to an aal.

spend the extra money and get the toyotec 3in coil over up front. You will be glad you did. i just installed my coil overs and rear wheelersoffroad multi leaf 1.5 for the rear it has a slight rear lean to it so i might do a one inch shackle to level it out still looking into it. it rides so much better though with the new coils and rear leaf. Does not bounce around so much when going over bumpy terrain. I will be running 285/75r16. Waiting to put new tie rod ends on before tires and alignment.
