That's insane, I simply had the alignment shop push the caster forward a bit, hammered down the pinch weld and remove flaps. The work you did is usually what guys that run 35s do!

Now with the 285s they rub the fender liner during compression but that's about it.

I run 265/75/r16s with no lift and no rubbing. Do you have tacoma factory rims or are they aftermarket?

3 inch toytec spacers 33 12.50s on steel wheels
I have 3 inch coil spacers and 2 inch blocks in the rear and 285s cleared fine. 33x12.50s on a 15x10 wheel rubs a decent amount but I know when to stop turning now.

The wheels are powdercoated. The hubs caps are just plasti-dip. Tape over the emblem then use a razor knife and cut out the voids you want black so the tape stays on the embem.

What backspacing are you guys going with? 4-4.5? What's ideal for a 285/75? 8 currently have factory wheels with a 265/75, but would like to do new wheels and tires with 285/75 once I wear down these 265/75

Donahoe CO's, Deaver leaf paks, Lockright Locker, All Pro body armor ( sliders, front and rear bumpers ), All Pro under belly skids, Warn M8K w/Masterpull synthetic line, Dual Optima battery system, 4 ea LightForce Striker 170 offroad lights, 8 ea wired rock lights, and plenty more I'm sure
    285/75/16 + 16 X 8 wheels @ 4.0" backspacing = ideal IMO

Should eliminate the possibility of tire/frame rub at full compression, L-R steering lock,
as well the possibility of slight tire rub on the stock UCA. (aired down - more probable)

I needed 2.5 susp. lift plus a 1" body lift
in order to clear 285/75/16's and fully stuff/turn (L&R steer lock) my tires.
Plus some pinch weld hammer work and plastic wheel well liner trimming needed happen.

Ideally a 4X Tacoma should avoid lifting the suspension more then 2.5"
More ^ and certain components will have a reduced consumable life.

For street duty or light duty fire road travel full tire stuff/turn is likely less subjected.

    Now I run 295/75/16... 34" ( 33.8" X 11.80" Nom. ) mo' bigger then 285's

Instead of changing out to new wheels BS'd @ 3.75" (which would be ideal).
I added 6mm lug spacer rings in compensation for the tire's 11.80 width.
Had to lengthen my Fr hub studs too... likely due to the thickness of my alloy wheel + spacer.

IMO 4.5 (factory BS'ing) is not ideal for 285/75/16 tires.

    Oh and realize now...
285's are heavier and wear components out faster...

especially if ya take it off road some.

Being sure your axle(s) are geared appropriately for those larger tires...
    is worthy to address.

    4.56 - 4.88 ...would be more ideal.

It never really stops ya know !? :p

Do you have spacers on your truck?

I love my 285s! Still have a little more plastic to trim and will probably bend over the pinch weld when I have time but other than that they are awesome!
