    Ok, let me correct your statement really quick, your only tuning options that are plug and play are UCON or Unichip, but if you're willing to splice in to your ECU, your bank account is the limit.

    In addition to that, while I agree the BD tuner is junk, I don't think you could expect many gains with an almost completely stock truck. Ok ok you have some random CAI, which we don't need to go into the argument of "the stock intake is already a CAI" and all that.

    And on the subject of UCON, URD issued a statement somewhere saying now that they have the harnesses made for 2005-2015 Tacomas, they are re-supplying UCON stock to match up with their Superchargers before they release the 2009+ UCONs for separate sales. Give it a year tops and I'm sure you'll be able to grab a UCON, which is designed for Tacomas, not a just tuner with a Tacoma random map in it (that doesn't work?

    Picked up a Bullydog Tuner and a Supercharger from a member here today.

    Sending the Supercharge in to have it looked over and rebuilt. So I will be a month without it. Thought I'd play with the tuner and see what it can do for a stock vehicle -- if anything.

    So I am having some issues with the tuner. The model number for the tuner is 40417

    We uninstalled / unlocked the GT tuner from a 2009 Tacoma with a SC. Verfied the status on the Tuner is "unloacked" Then I tried to change vehicle type to a 2006 Tacoma with a Manual Transmission, normally aspirated engine but came up with the following error screen after selecting Toyota> Tacoma> Manual Transmission > 2005-2008 ;

    [IMG]

    I pulled the SD card from the unit and viewed all files via PC. I noticed that out of all the files (for all applications), there is no "GTGUT06.GTG"
    The only files I see for the Taco are;

    GTGUT01.GTG
    GTGUT02.GTG
    GTGUT03.GTG
    GTGUT04.GTG
    GTGUT05.GTG

    I then used the bullydog update agent to download all applications to the SD card. Same files after most recent update.

    I do have the ability to select; Toyota> Tacoma> Automatic Transmission > 2005-2008 and the tuner will successfully change to this application file.

    What am I missing? I assume I have to run the MT tune and that the Auto isn't the same?

    I've sent an email to bullydog tech support to see if they can help.

    Anyone have a backed up previous version / file GTGUT06.GTG they could send me?

    I know the bd tuner doesn't work with the 06 auto with s/c either. Worked fine with my 06 pre s/c. Just got the tuner magnuson sells with their s/c but I haven't looked to see if it's compatible with an 06 yet

    Finally, 4 days later Bullydog tech support tells me that the latest update somehow removes file GTGUT06.GTG from the card which results in the error for the MT 2005-2008 Tacoma when changing to this vehicle type.

    They sent me the file via email. Saved the file to the card.

    All is right with the world again.

    A very simple question, with I assume a simple answer;

    When do I run the BD tuner? It's after the installation of the SC correct? However the instructions of the Magnuson SC say that's the first thing you do. Confused.

    They recommed you install it first in case you have issues loading the tune. That way you don't end up with a supercharger and in tuned ecu

    Thanks for the confirmation, that's what I thought. Why would they list it as the first step? Lol

    I haven't had any problems with mine. But my BD tuner came with the Supercharger from Magnuson. Since my ECU was reflashed years ago for the "spark knock noise" service bulliten, it couldn't accept the original TRD tune from Toyota. So if I wanted the SC, I had to go with the BD or get a new ECU.

    Magnuson just uses the BD tuner as a way to deliver their tune for the Supercharger. Which according to Dan and Magnuson, its nearly identical to the TRD flash. They are the ones who had the contract with TRD to develop and build the original TRD Superchargers for the 3.4 & 4.0s. I feel safe assuming they know what they're doing.

    BD actually has a "performance tune" for Supercharged Tacomas that are intended to work on top of the TRD flash. I won't touch that with a 10ft pole. From what I understand, that tune is the one that has been causing all the problems. And the with the BD being so invasive along with Toyotas ECU that really won't let you do anything more than once, it a temperamental combo.

    Ive had good results with the Magnuson Tune. Had my truck dyno'd to check Boost vs AFR numbers, and sent the graph to Dan of Magnuson, and it was perfect. Still want to install an AFR and boost gauge, but so far so good!
