Has anyone here upgraded their CV joints when they lifted their truck? I have an 08 with a 3" OME lift, and about 30k into owning the lift, the two problems I had was blowing U-joints and I've had to replace the CV joints once on each side. Now I put the lift on at 60K, so the CV's went around 110K. I guess it can be argued they might have gone anyway, although I don't think so.

So question stands, does anyone here just replace the CV's with custom ones when they lift? I think tom woods makes them, among others. Just curious.

I don't do lifts, but I can tell you that when I traded my 2007 in with 137,000 miles the CV joints (and everything else) were fine.

One thing that I would recommend is that you may want to install an ecgs bushing to replace the needle bearing in your front diff while you are doing the CV's this time around. If you haven't had that needle bearing go yet, you probably will soon with the 3" lift up front.

It also helps if your in the 2nd gen category. But no your cvs with 3" should be fine.

My CV's went at around 110K also. Not bad considering ,my lift went on at 30K.

I'm considering a new tacoma or 4runner. I don't mind the 4runner stock, but if I get a tacoma, I may put a lift on it, hence why I posted in the 3rd gen.

I just installed a Bilstine 3 inch lift with a add a leaf on the rear. Now my rear drive shaft is blowing grease out the u-joints. "note the drive shaft center support has excessive movement" (carrier bearing). the truck itself has less than 80K. is it possible that there is a miss alignment on the rear axel?

Did you install the drop bracket for the 3" lift?

You may need to get a drop bracket for your carrier bearing. Its possible the angle is too great and thats why it crapped out. But hopefully someone more experienced can comment or even correct me.
