First post here so hey there and hope I don't come off as too much of a noob. I've only owned and worked on my Wranglers up to this point and never disassembled a diff or regeared. That said, I have a 2016 SR5 with a 4" professionally installed lift (I bought it this way but did get verification that it was not owner installed) with about 10k on it and like most in this thread, have been going batty over this freakin noise/vibration. The symptoms described sound exactly like mine and they do disappear completely in 4H. My question is, if I can live with the noise (as it appears I have little choice but to) is it damaging to the truck in any way or just annoying?

First off, welcome. People here have driven on that vibe for thousands of miles with minor wear and tear on the cv axle but essentially what it is going to do is wear the spline on the CV down over time. Honestly for 50$ and a couple hours of your day, it well worth the peace of mind. I drove on mine about 1,000 miles before I installed the ECGS bushing and there was no issue with the CV.

Thanks for the welcome and advice. Yeah, that ECGS bearing seems like the answer. Not sure I'll do it myself or have my mechanic do it (its pretty damn cold in a non-heated garage this time of year!). Any idea on how much I should expect in labor on the bearing replacement and should I order that tool or expect them to be able to do it without or maybe even have a tool? I'm not going to the dealer as I don't want them to replace it with another needle bearing.

For sure get the tool cause I myself, like and idiot, did not. It turned what should be about a two hour job into 4.5. As for labor or having someone do it, I would make sure they know what they are doing and I only say that because I was going to have a shop that does nothing but off-road customization and repairs do it and all the mechanics looked at me like I had two heads and said they're not sure what needed to be done. Simply take the needle bearing out then install the bushing. I ended up just doing it my self.

again, sincere thanks! I was going to have my truck guys handle it but I guess I'll be prepared to do it should I get the pinwheels in the eyes look when I ask.

No problem. I learned everything here on this forum. I ended up using a friends lift in the shop he worked at and we just did it together. Since he obviously had more mechanical experience and I just knew exactly what needed to be done. But like I said it took us forever without the tool. Luckily though since this forum is awesome, there's a few people who have the tool and will lend it to you. You just pay shipping to get it toy our house and then mail it back to them.
