    I am buying a 2017 Tacoma Offroad

The dealer is asking what lift and tire combo I want.

What options have you done that get max lift and big tires without voiding warranty issues.

Please include a pic of your truck so I can see.

Don't let the dealer touch it. They're just gonna overcharge you for a shit lift.

Here's the brands you should consider:
    Icon (High end)
Old Man Emu (OME) (Quality for 'budget')
    Fox (high End)
    Kings (High end)
    Toytec (Quality stuff)
    Bilstein (budget, but quality)

These companies make real suspension systems that also lift the truck.

Many times dealers put drop bracket lifts on (these require welding/cutting on your frame often times). They'll net up to 6" lifts that "look awesome" but have virtually zero functionality.

Here's my 2015 DCLB w/ OME 886's and Dakar leaf pack (plus 33" tires)

I can't wait till it's time to lift mine and I have a lot of research to do in regards to this. One question I have is I see a lot of users go with 2", 2.5", 3" and 6" - other than looks to any of these cause more complications than others? I think I want to do 6", but if I only went with 2.5" or 3" will I notice a big difference over oem height?

    3 inch lift.
I've got a 3 inch on mine and whenever I see a normal one I think "ha mine is taller"

I see other taco's here locally and i can never tell what they are running, but they all look much taller so I guess even the slightest lift makes a difference and on top of that larger tires probably help

Every lift will technically void the warranty, on any parts affected by it. Toyota does not make a lift kit. Getting it done at a dealership might help you down the road, if there is a gray area on a failed part. Dealerships usually install some pretty shitty lift kits on stock trucks that aren't sold yet. If you get to pick the lift, you might pay more than at an off road shop, but you can probably finance it in with the truck, and the dealer may have your back if you have a warranty claim down the road.

I had a 2.5/1 lift kit with285/70/17's and my mileage dropped significantly. It looked great, but the mileage was terrible. If I were to do it again, I'd have gone with a 1.5-2 inch lift and 265/70/17's

^ that is a good point 'cause I don't want to mess with the mpg too much which is why I have been backing off the 6" idea

Generally 2.5-3" is the highest 'recommended' on the TW community. Anything higher can throw off the CV angles quite a bit (this leads to premature failure).

Typically to get 6" lifts you need drop bracket lifts which... look cool... but require cutting/welding on the vehicle frame. Once the lift is there you can be stuck with it. They're not considered as functional as a suspension only lift. Or folks use spacers - which are a hot topic for debate (and commonly frowned upon in the off-road community).

Ultimately it comes down to WHY you're lifting. What do you want it to do?

LOL This is so me. I can sit side by side at a light with a stock truck and think, "Jeez my lift must have settled... his hood is the same height as mine..."

In my mind the only reason to do a 6" lift is because: A) I want the bro look. B) I want 35" or larger tires.

I'm thinking of a 4" lift. What kit and how big of tires could I put on without cutting?

Honestly - mostly for looks and a little more clearance when I hopefully get to trails. I don't care for much larger tires so i will still with 3" or less

You'd be surprised what you can drive over with a 3" lift and 33" tires (which is about all you'll fit under there without other modifications).

Thanks everyone - I think this is helping me with lift size so that all I have to focus on research wise is which kit and process of getting that kit

A minimal lift with wider aftermarket rims, and 265/70/17's look pretty good. This is a picture of a truck with no lift or leveling kit with aftermarket rims and 265/70/17's.

Painted grill and rear bumper, Removed all badges and stickers, Tint, OME lift TRD wheels and BFGs on order.
Keep in mind that a C rated tire like BFG KO2 weighs about 44 lbs. Close to your stock tire. Butt you go buy the E rated tire and it's
60 lbs. and you MPG will crash...

Not necessarily true. I'm running 33" KM2s in E load and still manage an average of 18-22mpg
