How long does it take for the dealer techs to do it? Want to know how long to expect leaving my truck there ahead of time so I can plan around it.

I left my 2016 Tacoma Limited with 4,200 miles on it (which already had the original TSB update) with my dealership Wednesday afternoon last week, Dec 7th. I had a list of issues, some major as the gear hunting and some minor the passenger weather mat sliding all over the place. I also wanted the tire pressure checked because it had dropped significantly when the weather changed and I didn't think Nitrogen filled were supposed to do that. The main issue though was to have the transmission fluid checked and have the revision 2 update installed. Thursday afternoon I got the call that it was ready. When I left the dealership I was amazed. Honestly it was like they had installed a new engine and a new transmission. I found myself not even having to use the ECT PWR at all. It would get up and go! Before, my transmission problem was so apparent because I go over a mountain everyday to and from work and it would gear hunt and jerk me around all the way up. When I picked it up I took it straight to the mountain and it handled it like a dream. 100% happy. I am, however, hoping that it does not revert. The only reason I'm saying this is because yesterday afternoon on the way up the mountain it was gear hunting extremely bad. It seemed to be ok this morning but I took a different route and didn't have to go over the mountain. I was really disappointed. I even wondered if somehow when I used the ECT PWR button yesterday morning if it had reset something. Highly doubtful but it did cross my mind.

One thing I can say is that Sunny King Toyota has been great with working on my issues. I will list the issues and what they did for anyone interested. I know some of these issues are mentioned in other posts so I'm not the only one experiencing even the minor ones. And I also noticed this morning that my passenger side temperature knob is not turning smoothly which I've heard others with that issue. I guess I had never used it to notice before.

    Issues
Brake Pedal was making a spring popping sound with pressed and when released.
Fix - Dealership replaced the spring.

Tire Pressure Check (Michelin P265/60R18) but want BFG all terrain : ).
Fix - Tires were a little low (29 psi), the door recommends 32. They filled to 35. I need to research this to see if it is too much they will get up to 36 when driving.

    TSB Rev 1 Update.
Installed. I even checked this with my Carista to verify that it was actually done. It was.

Driver and Passenger windows creaked and rattled when rolled down about 3-5 inches.
Fix - Claimed friction on window from window tint and put some kind of lube somewhere.

Transmission Fluid Check because of complaints of it being low.
Fix - it was a pint low (1/2 Quart) so they added. not sure if that is bad or not. I've heard some being 2 quarts low.

Passenger side weather mat doesn't stay in place
Fix - They said to make sure I press it hard down into the carpet so the nibs dig a little. This has seemed to work for the most part. Still the stock weather mats are not high quality and I will probably order Weathertec or something.

Vehicle had a vibration at times. Not like some are complaining about where their hands actually hurt, but still a vibration.
Fix - Tire wheel assembly out of balance. Balanced 4 Wheels. I haven't noticed the vibration since.

Vehicle sometimes surges when coming to a stop. This has only happened to me twice but both times it was not a good feeling. It almost surged right into the back of my daughters car.
Manager test drove and notice this happening. He said to just be aware because there is currently not a fix for that. This is what was on the invoice.
Transmission will surge like it is jumping forward when power demand on engine bumps idle it is normal to possibly get a slight push when vehicle is in gear.

Sorry post is so long but maybe it will help someone having the same type issues. All of this was covered under warranty.

I had the TSB done on my 2017 last Thursday - seem good when I left the dealership but with a few days driving it seems to be gear hunting again and at times bogs down. It seems like it wants to shift up a little over 1,50 rpms. Once you are coasting on a flat road it's as if the motor has stopped running - the pedal feels dead. Hopefully another update comes out. Still seem to have trouble once the truck hits an uphill incline and shifts up too fast.

They had a slow day, they said it takes 30-45 min. to do the download. In and out, it doesn't happen often.

How do you use your carista to check latest software?

I used a program called ODB Fusion for iOS. On the main screen I clicked "Monitors", then at the bottom of the screen on the right I clicked Mode $09 and it took me to a screen that listed VIN number and the Calibration ID #'s which matched the software versions from the actual TSB rev 1.

Guys, it gear hunts because the programming is eco oriented. drive with ECT PWR to change the shifting dynamic to avoid gear hunting. Toyota is unlikely to update the shift programming of drive drastically because they already programmed better shifting via ect.

Mine surges too and that is the one that is more noticeable after the rev 1. The gear hunting is gone for me although after the first TSB it tended to stay in gear to long in my opinion. Now it feels better and shifts better. It still doesn't feel as smooth as it should to me but it is a lot better than it was and mine was 1 qt low. I guess I'm used to the surging now but I have a case with Toyota and they wan t me to bring it back in.

Unfortunately Ect. wasn't the answer to the gear hunting on my truck, traveling 70-80mph on any type of grade and the transmission was constantly back and forth. The new software update really helped reduce the shifting issue.

Supposedly had the first TSB done a few months ago. The dealer, Fred Anderson of Raleigh said he installed the new software but didn't note it on my receipt because he couldn't replicate the symptoms and toyota doesn't like when they install software without proof. Well I plugged in my code reader today and the old software version is still on there. They lied. So for all of you who are getting the update done but not getting the sticker, you may want to verify your software version using a scan tool. I have OBDwiz.

I agree, after Rev1 it feels better and shifts better. Drastically better. I just wish we had the option to turn off the "learning" transmission. I could be wrong but I feel like it has a lot to do with it reverting back to old ways, especially with the first TSB. I'm keeping an eye on the surging though, that could be so dangerous. I've already read someone surged into a tree.

Had my REV 1 done today and immediately drove 50 miles or so after I left the dealership and it's driving well. I had the original TSB done at 5000 miles and like everyone else has mentioned, it lost it about 1500 miles later and I was upset. I'm at 7400 miles and went in today like I mentioned and finally back to "normal".... hopefully this sticks around.

Thanks for the post, I was able to validate my 08/16 build taco has the 200 series software in it (original TSB). I have not had any of issues mentioned in the thread, other than crapy MPG (15.6). Not sure if I will get the rev 1 update as I like how it drives. Wish I could do it then go back if I don't like it.

Can anyone tell me if 2017's with very recent build dates (Nov+) are being delivered with this revision?

Ok to start i bouht my 16 Tacoma XP in May of this year. Mfg date of 3/16. 2wd v6. I started noticing after about 5500 miles a hesitation when backing up out of driveway when changing from reverse to drive. I would switch to drive then hit the gas pedal and the truck would not move. It would take approx 5-7 seconds before truck would actually go into drive. Shortly after this i started experiencing harsh down shifts when coming to a stop. The first time it happened i actually thought someone had rear ended me. It continued to happen several other times before my next scheduled service. I am an ASE certified tech (do not work on cars other than my own any more but certs still active) so i tried to pay attention to as many details when it happens so they could attempt to duplicate at dealer. I dropped off for 2nd service and asked dealer to check transmission about delayed engagement along with the harsh downshift. After about 3 hours at the dealer they brought my truck back and said they had flashed ECU with an update that supposedly addressed all of the problems i have been having. The next day i experienced the harsh downshift again while coming to a stop and again after the vehicle had already came to a complete stop. I had pulled up to exit a parking lot and about 10 seconds after stopping the trans jerked hard and i assume shifted into 1st. i have read alot of the forums and it seems everyone has experienced upshift problems. Long story short....has anyone else had the hash downshifting? I bought a new truck ( my first new vehicle ever ) to avoid the hassles of a used vehicle and feel like i wasted alot of money.

The solution to this problem is to get rid of them so TOYOTA GETS THE HINT. I wouldn't let my worst enemy buy one until Toyota gets their act together and gets these fixed!! Mine has been slamming into first gear for about 1,500 miles so I got rid of it and bought an F150 no way am I putting up with the way this drivetrain behaves just because I like the looks and a few other things about the Tacoma! Let's be honest this is not a software issue! 99% sure no software update will stop the transmission from slamming into 1st gear when coming to a stop!!!
