Anyone added brakes to a non-tow pkg TRD Off-road? I mounted my own class3 hitch and a Curt trailer light harness. Now looking to add a brake controller but not sure what it'd take.

If it does not have the tow package, it may not have the pig tail for the connector. But I think there are kits for wiring it in yourself. etrailer may have something.

I have a brake cobtroller installed on my 16. Super easy to install. Gp to the dealer and get the pigtail. I had tp cut it and splice it into my older co troller.

Is your truck a manual? If auto, you most likely don't have a trans cooler. You better not tow anything heavy for long. If you tow and fail the transmission while under warrenty, I see a denied coverage. Just wanting to make sure you are aware.

I'll bet every Taco has the same wire harness in the cabin. Pull the kick panel off by the driver's left foot. The brake controller pigtail should be tucked in there. Google it.

Yeah I've got an empty connector in there. But don't know if that's it. And more importantly, I don't know where it goes. With a non-tow pkg there is no trailer connection installed. So I've got to find it in the rear somewhere.
I'm pulling a camper. Way under the rated tow cap. Pulls easy, but the stops take more work, so I'd rather have the controller. It's traffic hell around here in Jacksonville and stopping distance is at a premium.

The 3rd gen has a different trailer brake harness. It's the same harness from the 2015 Tundra though. If you have it, it would be behind all the plugs just below the main set of wires coming in through the firewall. If you don't have the pig tail you can tap wires in the kick panel and "make your own" but I'm not sure which ones that would be for the 3rd gen.
