Don't get me wrong, both my wife and I would love to stay in the PNW. For me, my other hobbies are hiking / nature & wildlife photography and the PNW has so many great opportunities for that. I guess we are just kinda at a crossroads with no real option for advancement at our current jobs. Living somewhere you truly enjoy is definitely worth earning less (to a certain extent) than some of your peers, I just don't know if it's worth sacrificing upwards of 30k-40k per year.....

It's all relative though. When you have 180k of student loans and a house mortgage on top of that etc. all of those things eat up your disposable income. We currently live comfortably but not over the top. Student debt is a reality in this day and age unfortunately and at least in our sector the debt:income ratio has increased over the years compared to those veterinarians that graduated 20-30 years ago where they could buy into a practice 2 years out of school -- not the case these days. For a proposed 10% ownership stake in our current practices, it will cost me about 600k to be paid off over the next 10 years. We won't be in a positive cash flow situation until year 11 at our current salaries.

That's awesome. I tend to be a conservative risk averse person so I admire your boldness to just say screw it, pick up everything and go.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

at least you have student debt for a real job. How many kids do I know graduating with worthless degrees bagging groceries and owing their paychecks to student loans. Relocating is expensive unless the employer is paying for it.

I know. It's a shame how some institutions mislead students sending them down the path only to graduate with a degree that is difficult to translate into a positive return on investment.

It is true, but the main share of blame rests with the kid, parents, family etc. My granddaughter just graduated from Long Beach U (in 3 years) and one of her roommates,
was in her 5ft year finishing DANCING. It is up to us to take care of our future, My father was telling me: you never liked school, so you can't make wise decisions in life
at least make less mistakes, and you will be fine.

You could always start a concierge style one. Maybe you could try that while she is getting her feet wet with the new practice
