Has anyone with a 2016 re keyed their tailgate to their FOB key like the 2017 models? If so how much did it cost you

    There's a difference between 2016 and 2017 tailgate locks?

The 2016 uses a separate tailgate key and the 17 uses the key attached to the FOB which also locks the glove box

Agreed. Not really a big deal, but annoying, nevertheless it makes sense for it to just be keyed like the glove box key from the fob.

My FOB has a "hidden" key built in, but I also got a separate "key" for the tailgate. You didn't get that?

Not mocking you, I just got my 2017 this past Saturday and am not aware of any changes/improvements between the two model years other than I got the power rear sliding window. :D

    Learning something new!

OK... does the "separate key" open the doors and tailgate and glove box...??? Is it the same as the FOB "hidden" key...??

All three locks are keyed the same. So yes, qualified with my having held the keys up to one another to check the pattern but not having actually tried the separate key in the door or glove box. Will try that tonight.

Hey DesertTaco, what I did was get a second tailgate key cut for my 2016 Sport... then I removed all that bulky plastic shit on it and cut the "head" of it down, so that it fits on my key ring and I don't really notice it at all..... Worked for me... Plus...only 1 key for the T/G was stupid from the get-go....!!

You can get a Pop Lock. Works for either 2016 or 2017. It's about $80 but it allows you to unlock/lock your tailgate with your FOB, just as you would open your doors.

I installed pop n lock and had it wired so that when I activate the alarm on and off it automatically locks and opens with the doors

Or you could just have a locksmith code the cylinder in the tailgate to match the key on the fob that opens the front door

There's a YouTube video of the install. Pretty easy but set aside a couple hours.

Just make sure you have them wire it to the passenger doors you don't want your tailgate opening everytime you press it once.
When I have a chance I'll take some pics.

You sure? They gave me a separate actual key for the glovebox/tailgate but it's the same key that comes out of the fob, just has an actual handle

Where did you get the 2nd key made? I tried Lowes but they said they couldn't do it.

I had mine cut in Canadian Tire... any Hdwre store should do it.. no chip or anything....!! It cost me $2.47....It did not fit just perfect till I filed the front tip down a 1000th or so....

    Good luck..

I bet they thought you meant an Ignition Key....!!
