Ok, then he is using your existing pool pump and filter. The suction pipe on the bottom of your skimmer (underneath the basket) connects directly to your pool pump. When you plop the pool hose in there, you begin vacuuming using your existing equipment. Any dirt gets trapped in your filter and any leaves get trapped in the pump basket. If you don't have much dirt and you rarely have algae issues, you could probably go a few months between having to backwash the filter, but the pump basket should be cleared weekly (or less if it's a clear cap and you can see the basket contents).

    Haven't had any algae issues
No real sand so high up on the mountain
    Pretty protected from wind too
    Essentially leaves only mostly

La Cañada is one hell of a drive for me. If I ever find myself down that way, however, I generally work for beer.

Check out Costco for pool cleaner robots, bought mine there 3 years ago, no issues. Super easy to use versus creepy crawly or hose systems. All you do is clean a filter bag.
It's easy looking after your pool, get water tested, they will tell you what chemicals you need to balance water, use a pool sock on your strainer basket, keeps a bunch of stuff going into your filter system.
Pick up a variable speed pump, your electric bills are way to high.
Your pool guy is screwing you over

Yeah we clean our own pool. Check the filters routinely, check the ph levels, and chlorine. Usually I take a measured bottle of the pool water to our local pool store and they can test it when need be. We use an electric pool cleaner that scrubs the bottom of the pool and floats to the top for the loose leaves.

I struggled with keeping a clear pool when we first bought our house almost 7 years ago. After paying large sums to the local pool shop, I found a better way. Check out www.troublefreepool.com . Very knowledgeable, friendly people who are happy to help. You willl learn more about what each chemical does to your pool, and have a clearer pool while spending less money. Also, for a test kit, I would go with the TFT brand and highly recommend the TF-100. Gives you more tests than just the 2-way oH and chlorine shown above.

As I mentioned in my long process writeup, make sure you brush the walls AFTER you vacuum, otherwise you will stir up anything sitting on the bottom and then you won't be able to vacuum it.

Reason? It looks identical to the All Clear brand I used to use.

The company I used, did the pool for 8 years prior to me purchasing. I asked around the neighborhood, and they all use this company.

I am frustrated with how bad they are. So they are done. Thus I don't know where to shop around at all for one .
