Also, I was not sticking up for the pool cleaner or owner. I personally don't care about how they feed their families. They should have thought about that when they started charging for time not on the job. The bigger a company gets the more they push employees to get done in a day.
Mine is small and I'm out in the field every week day and sometimes Saturdays. In fact just got in about a hour ago, covering about 140+ miles. I spend a lot of my time visiting and answering my customers questions. I also encourage my guys to help our customers with anything they ask even if its not pool related.
Not saying you don't need your CPO license, but generally homeowners don't need it. Plus the classes are not cheap and go in to more details than you will need or ever use for your pool. Unless you are thinking you want to start a pool company and put your old pool company out of business. I would recommend finding an other company and hire them to do a pool 101 corse with you at your pool, so you know exactly how your pool and equipment works. We offer it to many of our customers. Do several per year. They are some of our best customers too.

Not good to put chlorine tablets in the skimmer. Ears the seal in the pump, and causes it to leak and shorts motor life.

    Great idea

Neighbor about 5 streets over I talked to tonight at a walk, mentioned their pool guy
    Charges $80 a month
    Dad and son business
    Mom is office manager

I sent this company an email if he can do a pool 101 class with me as well

This thread has been excellent and each and everyone of you I owe a lot to learn about this

I can't get in the pool business with my busy day job :)

It was a pretty fun job that paid better than the food service industry when I was in college and it kept me outside. During the summer months cleaning I'd get so dark people would think I was half Mexican. I did it back in the day before GPS navigation, so reading a paper map out of a Thomas Guide is second nature.

I've got a mortgage, a minivan payment, and child number 4 on the way. No spare change here.

I mapped it out and you're actually only a little over an hour from me if the 210 is flowing well. Maybe a trip down there wouldn't be totally out of the question early next year.
