Years of research and a lifetime of exploring Baja California both on land and in books have culminated in this volume that tells the story of the discovery of California (following 1769, called Baja California), the expeditions to colonize the peninsula (believed to be an island), and the missions Spain authorized to convert the natives.

@David K These look great! As a lifetime Californian (except for the last few years), many people have no idea about the Missions, what they were for, why they were built, and what El Camino Real actually is.

Growing up in CA, we learned about this in school; something everyone should know! Very different from the English colonial history in the east coast.

Yes, Jonathan, the East Coast was a British colony and the West Coast was a Spanish province. Actually, Spanish missions were all over the southern United States. Near your new home in Charlette, even! Thank you for your interest!

    From Wiki:

The Spanish missions in the Carolinas were part of a series of religious outposts established by Spanish Catholics in order to spread the Christian doctrine among the local Native Americans. Spanish missions extended north almost to the site of present-day Charleston, and they remained until the arrival of the English

Just a note, we have sold out two of the classic books we offered:
1953 'Baja California' book and the 1974 'There It Is: Baja!'
However, we are able to add a new 'semi-classic' book and it will be added soon to the website. It is Tom Miller's 1992 edition of The Baja Book III...
