I decided to get a new truck and started looking. I decided to look at Tacomas since Tundras get such crappy mileage. I was going to get a full-size half ton but decided to keep my F250 and get new daily driver.

Of course, I couldn't find a Tacoma that suited me even though the dealer tried. I have to order one- something to do with putting a change-order in at the assembly line.

Quicksand, 6 speed, 4 door. Has the typical options- not like Tacomas have a lot of choices. Anyway, my last Toyota truck was a '79. It rode like a tank but it got me there. I am guessing this will have a little more get up and go than the 20R!

Now they are telling me 8 weeks. How frikken hard is it to just find me a truck? Manager told me he wouldn't blame me if I went somewhere else and bought something else. Doesn't sound like the Japs are very friendly to the dealers and certainly run their business a lot different than the big 3 US auto makers.

I was told by 3 dealers that they couldn't find me the truck that I wanted in the state of Texas and that I should just order one from them... Needless to say I got on auto trader and typed in my search requirements and found the exact truck I wanted! It was 3 hours away and only 30 mins from a dealer that said he couldn't find one... Called the dealership with my truck and said Ill be there to buy it Monday and they held it for me and had it ready to go when I got there! Oh and mind you it was priced cheaper then those dealers who couldn't find it...

Toyota really sucks. I have ordered a truck twice now; the first time they didn't accept my order. The second time they made a bunch of major changes to it- like major changes. Apparently Toyota doesn't give a rat's tit about what customers want- the want to do it "their way". I have to wait until January to make another order and they are supposed to accept it since it is the 3 attempt. What a bunch of crap. Some day all this banking on Toyota loyalty will catch up with them and they will have to make some changes.

Truthfully I'd never had been as patient as you were. I simply found one on the lot and bought it in the color I wanted, it happened to be a Tech package or something.

Toyota loyalty is like the economy, it exists because we think it does. You actually are perpetrating the myth by giving them a 3rd chance :)

Not trying to sway your opinion one way or another, but just stating reliability and loyalty are terms thrown around here a lot, but mean very little.

The Tacoma and the Jeep Wrangler are unique, niche market vehicles that will continue to be dictated to us by the companies because honestly, we keep buying them.

That said, my 2017 OR is badass and contrary to many on the forum would have you believe, I love driving it every day...and I've had a few problems too, mine hasn't been perfect. Doesn't really matter, it's a lifestyle truck so I willfully overlook some of it's faults / issues...the same can be said of Jeeps.

I spent the morning on the phone. Toyota is truly one really screwed up company- it's like a drug cartel where each section is compartmentalized such that nobody is allowed to know how the other section operates nor who works there. Mind boggling. Toyota really doesn't want you dealing with anyone other than the dealer. I had national customer service transfer me to the dealer that i was trying to get around. National customer service couldn't even answer my questions. Regional office just lied to me, mocked me and hung up on me. Bottom line is that you CANNOT order a truck from Toyota. You can "REQUEST" certain options and IF you wait long enough, one may eventually show up. Best they can offer. That is really poor customer service. I am headed to the dealership this afternoon to get my deposit back and I will ORDER an F150.

For anyone who is looking to order a Toyota truck, this is 100% true. I found this out before I got rid of my Silverado so I knew what I was looking for when I saw it on the lot, because it's possible that's the last one like it you'll find.

It is kinda messed up, it's best to know this going in. Any Toyota dealer who's going to "order" you a truck is lying.
