Went up to Slick Rock After thanksgiving, the main road was closed so have to take the fire roads around Lake Alpine. We didn't go all the way through as it was late, but may want to check that area out.

I posted these pics in another thread, but thought you guys might like it as well. My DIY Cap Rack!

1x2x1/8 tubes making it 47 inches wide and 53 inches long. It is VERY low profile, but I can stand on any one cross bar with no deflection and I am 190 pounds. It's very very solid.

and all mounted ready for to carry something

carried my solar panel and tire during a trip. Soon to hold my rtt and awning

Great job! I love the look! It looks like you don't have the Thule tracks already installed?

In mine I already the Thule tracks. The rack itself is just 1x2x1/8" tube laying on it side to be flat welded together. I used heavy duty farm gate hinges for the mounts as the tracks were cantered towards the outside of the cap. Worked out perfect.

The look of yours will go well with the OEM cab rack! It's awesome!

I would love that! But cost is a factor. If I do get an RTT it won't be until next summer. After building this the wife said, just make your own! LOL! Just because I can weld a bit doesn't mean I can sew hehehe

    Looking good man!
Do you know if your cap is reinforced? I keep hearing people talking about reinforced caps etc, I have the 180x which is a raised section of the cap and want to build a rack for it but can't tell if its reinforced...

Of course, now that I made the rack, I am thinking I may have to add a 1" spacer under it so when I build the rack for the cab they will line up. For now though I will leave it alone. After I get the one for the cab done I can always raise it later. It would much easier than trying to figure out how to make the cab rack as low as the cap rack.

Thanks man. I drilled the cap and used plate to sandwich the cap with some bolts. Caps reinforced so holds a fair bit of weight.

I like how wide yours is. Could have gone a bit wider on mine, but it will do lol.
