Not even remotely Tacoma related, but I'm too lazy to create an account on a tractor forum. My brother in law recently bought a restored Ford 8N and his wife has asked me to help her find him a trailer for his birthday.

I imagine that she probably needs to find some sort of tandem axle trailer with ramps, but what about trailer brakes? And does anyone know about what an 8N weighs and how wide it is?

I hadn't looked at it from that perspective. Not a bad thing to consider.

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
I helped a buddy transport an Allis Chalmers he inherited. We measured the width and rented a tandem axle car hauler that was wide enough. No trailer brake controller on the truck. Worked fine, just gave myself extra distance when stopping. Only hard part was getting it up on the trailer since his tractor had the 2 little wheels in the middle up front and the trailer had 2 thin ramps instead of a full width ramp. We had to back it on and lift the front with a dump bucket on another tractor to do it. I can't tell from the pic but make sure the front wheels are the same width as the back ones or you may have the same issue.

That's a very good point. It seems like a generic 16' car hauler with surge brakes should be do the job, just need to figure out if there is anything special that needs to be considered, like deck height or ramp length.

Busted CV boots and lots of squeaks.
I agree with the dual axle, and brakes.

Great point. Some 8Ns have two tiny front wheels close together, so you'll need 3 ramps to get it on. 2 normal, one wide, or 4 normal with the middle two side by side. Easiest is to get a trailer with a drop gate so you have a full surface to drive up on.

EDIT: If it truly is an 8N, the front wheels will not be close together, so 2 ramps is fine. I was thinking of an entirely different beast.

Car trailer with surge breaks is a great idea.
Lower is always better when hauling heavy items, keep your moment low, you won't tip/roll as easy.
As far as ramp length... its a tractor, if a car can make it onto the trailer, a tractor can make it!

Something like this would be ideal (not same tractor in image but trailer is good)...

Or, if he'll want to drive around with a brush hog attached to the 3 point, something like this but with the ramp (just easier to deal with)...
