2017 Tailgate Security

So what is everyone doing to secure their tailgate from being stolen? I used to have one of these on my 2014:

Unfortunately, it doesn't fit on my 3rd gen. What are you all using? Don't want my tailgate stolen.

I'm confused. You both have 2017 Offroads... did your not come with the locking tailgate? Or is that a package upgrade?

 

Mine does lock but I am worried I will forget to lock the tailgate itself so I want the pop & lock so when I lock the truck with the fob it locks the tailgate

Just a little loud when locking and unlocking but for piece of mind i'll put up with it.

I don't believe anything fancier is really needed!

 

That is a port-install option (at least in SouthEast Toyota territory) and is by no means standard equipment.

Another vote for pop n lock.

Plus, it keeps stuff under the tonneau from walking away, too.

Not sure if it's gonna work, my 2017's passenger side mount is angled not flat like the 2015's looks almost beveled.

 

I have a 2017 TRD Pro and it works perfectly. Not sure what the difference would be with your 2017 so I can't really comment. But it's not too expensive an experiment in any case, although I paid a buck less than what Amazon currently sells those for. Check out a local hardware store. Since you really only need one I'd bet you could pick one up for around $2. Just make sure you pay attention to the size of the clamp.

All 2017 Tacoma's come standard with the locking tailgate. I have the base model SR with the utility package with no options and mine came with the tailgate lock factory.

 

I was referring to the power tailgate lock which locks/unlocks the tailgate in sync with the driver's door keyless entry.

All third gen Tacomas have a manual tailgate lock, something that is easily forgotten. With a power locking tailgate the chances of leaving it unlocked are substantially lower.

This!!!!! I plan on getting the power lock, but again I want to help protect against "that couple of minutes" of being unlocked that might contribute to my tailgate disappearing...

 

This looks like a winner! Any pix of it installed? Should I derp it first to prevent rust?
