Covering up weep holes?

What does everyone do to the weep holes in the floor when carpeting the bed area? Do you cover up the weep holes so moisture doesn't come in and get the flooring wet?

If you cover them up, what have you used?

 

Weep holes are to let water out aren't they?

How does water get in via the weep holes?

 

Sitting in the bed, I can see the ground through the weep holes, so I'm assuming road spray, etc. can work it's way to the carpet if left uncovered. Also with a cap installed, I'm also assuming I will not have the need to drain any water out?

 

Most likely. Unless you want to clean up a mess from a spill. Or have a large liquid spill. Or have a blowing rain around the edges of the tailgate. I would not count on it being like an SUV.

Doubtful. But test it and see. Carpet will be removable (hopefully). So after the cap is on, place some Kleenex or paper towel over the holes and drive in your worst weather. Check them for moisture immediately. And don't confuse humidity absorption with actual water intrusion.

If you insist on plugging them, maybe use some miniature rubber stoppers Or use a small SS screw with a rubber washer?

These are good tailgate seals and below is how to install on our 2016 Tacoma's. Pretty simple but just remember to invert the bottom seal as it shows.

As far as the bed drain holes go I would use stainless steel screws along with some rubber washers. There is 2 more square looking holes in the bed floor about 10" in front of the tailgate. I just put silicone in those.

 

Thank you for the Tailgate seal instructions, I was definelty planning on sealing it and the exact instructions for our Tacoma's will come in handy.
