Well, their sister dealer in town is where I bought it, and they charged me twice for the delivery fee and some other crap fee. I caught it like a month later when I was looking over the paperwork because they also didn't send the loan check overage back to the bank within 2 wks like they said they would. The next closest dealer would be in Denver, over an hour away.

Smitty donuts are super unhealthy bro, just sayin.

I had the clunk .... went away when I upgraded my suspension. I added AALs and different rear shocks and ditched the over load spring. Problem solved.

28 years ago "made in Japan" was akin to made in China, just sayin.....and rust.

My "made is USA" Tacoma has been trouble free as are the vast majority of them.

Yeah My made in USA 2003 ford ranger and 2011 GMC Sierra were trouble free for a combined 210k miles. My 2011 BMW and 2016 Tacoma not so much

Sorry, but you couldn't be more wrong. 25-30 years ago was the heyday for Japanese manufacturing. They changed it worldwide, forever. The late 80s/early 90s toyota pickups were tanks well known for surviving anything. My 94 was bulletproof and still running like a champ when I sold it a year ago. I still miss it sometimes.

Your opinion... early 70s maybe... by the 80s Japan was making shit to throw away after a few years of use... now same as China. Remember when you could actually have your appliance fixed??

Was the BMW a complete redesign? Expecting a brand new truck with a completely new engine/trans to not have any hiccups is asking a little much. If you want to be frustrated, drive a 2nd gen Tacoma that had engine pinging, a loud "clack" every time you stepped on the brakes, driveline issues, rattling windows, and a frame design that would rust out. My old chevy had numerous issues, in fact, it was in the dealer so often, I still know the whole vin # off the top of my head. I'm sure Toyota will get it addressed.

My Hilux has some small rust spots in the bed, but that is expected after 28 years. Some Tacoma frames fell apart like paper around the 6 year mark. Buying this truck and driving it reminds me how far Toyota (specifically in America) has fallen.

    20161213_162328.jpg

Toyota reliability in trucks is based off this specific truck. Top Gear proved this truck is nearly indestructible. War zones proved this truck is nearly indestructible. People are shelling out nearly $40k for a 3rd gen Tacoma, that in my opinion is subpar for the price it costs, and they are expecting 1980's reliability that is non existent.

Having a service rep tell you it's normal doesn't build much confidence to that effect

Yep. That just pisses you off. Makes you want to swear off Toyota for good. Unfortunately there is no obvious alternative, which is why they can get away with this on the Tacoma. The Pilot keeps the Highlander on its toes.

    Mods coming soon...
Just took my 2016 in for 15k service, rev 2 of the Tranny TSB, headliner rattle, excessive leaking around my tonneau, ujoint inspection, tranny fluid level check & the infamous clunk...

    15k service-done
    TSB-updated, done
Headliner-TBD... tech said they couldn't replicate the rattle but they put some adhesive up there to help address my concern.
Tonneau-was told that I had a normal amount of leakage. I expected better from a 650.00 dealer installed accessory.
    Ujoints- checked ok, done
    Tranny Fluid-checked ok, done

Clunk-they could not replicate so no action taken.

Now that it has been mentioned it does sounds like it could possibly be axle wrap. Had a similar issue in a 1st gen 4Runner but that was post lift. I'm hoping to lift my Taco & go to 285s next Feb so perhaps with that it will take care of itself if the geometry is tuned. If not I'll keep reporting it until they take care of it.

Service advisors don't know squat, some of them anyway. If you haven't taken the TSB print out in with you already, I'd ask for the mgr or call corp. Sorry to hear you are having issues, just keep pushing, it'll get addressed.

    Dude... They all suck.

I have a Texas truck and it's a POS. This isn't a factory problem. It's a corporation and design problem.

My 2016 trd off road has the same clunk when coming to a stop, almost certain it is something to do with the rear diff. Only it doesn't always happen.Took the truck in last week for its first service and transmission tsb and mentioned the clunk. Techs "could not replicate."

China will build you whatever the fawk you want to whatever spec. You just have to pay inspectors to over see production cause they'll cut corners wherever they see fit.

Lol, I had to scroll up to see what thread I'm responding to. This thing is way off topic, love it.

As for the clunk, I've got one every once and a while. I think it's my leaf springs, hopefully...

Trust me corporate knows me. I've already been given a platinum warranty 125k mi/8years for all of the issues I've had and ive had several meetings with the regional FTS as well as the director of service for the auto group where I bought my truck (not the dealership service manager but the director of service for multiple dealerships)

FJs had problems with a "bump" sensation from the rear for years.

Was an issue with the slip yolk on the rear driveshaft. In some cases it was a lack of lubrication or wrong lubrication, and in others it was owners putting more than the recommended 2 pumps in and hydraulically locking the movement of the slip yolk.

The fix was replacement of the rear shaft under a TSB but many owners fixed it themselves in about an hour by removing and taking the assembly apart to clean and reinstall.

Not sure if it helps, but the symptoms fit.
