Need Advice On Buying New Truck

    Good evening TW, I'm looking to upgrade to a TRD. I test drove a 2006 TRD(Manual) tonight, and I noticed that there was a lot of play in the gears. In my old SR5 07 Taco I had a manual as well and I don't recall there being nearly any play in the gears, I was wondering if this is something that is fixable? And if so is it cheap? The truck fits my price range and this is the only thing from holding me back its a 2006 TRD DCSB

    Edit: The owner states that he replaced the clutch 10k miles ago, and the truck only has 125k miles total.

    That's easier said than done right now,

    I was just wondering if any TW Members had any idea's, or if this was a common problem.

    I called a buddy of mine, he said that the shifter bushing could be worn, and that it is a cheap fix, but he said he's never worked on a tacoma before so he isn't 100% sure.

    Does anyone else think this is what it sounds like?

    What do you mean 'a lot of play'? If the stick seems wobbly or vague could just need a new shifter seat. On our trucks it's just a nylon bushing that wears and sometime disintegrates. It's a much bigger PITA to get all the plastic trim out of the way than it is to replace a $5 chunk of nylon.

    Yes the shifter seems really wobbly, and it's almost a feeling of "guessing" what gear your in. And once I put it in gear I could move the shifter side to side and it had a lot of "play".

    Clutch felt good, and the owner claims the clutch was replaced 10k miles ago... Just concerned because of the "play" in the column

    I guess it's irrelevant, the guy sold it today... I guess thats what happens for trying to do your research.

    Sorry to hear it was sold. As far as the shifter, probably just the seat bushing.
