    Stuff. Also things.
I hear you, Chris! I just have a major aversion to credit card debt despite using them exclusively. At this point, I've managed to do the build without carrying a CC balance, and I'm trying to keep it that way!

    But it is soooooo tempting...

Doubt anyone has run into this... but figured I post to get some thoughts.

Currently have an inchworm case with 2.28 gears, want to swap in the Marlin 4.7s I have. Crawlbox has been torn down to the front dual case adapter. The dual case coupler is pressed onto the low speed(2.28) gear and onto the dual row bearing as well.

Attached image is where I am at now, my question being...How do I go about pressing out this coupler with out fubaring the dual case adapter itself or the bearing retainer compartment with the 4 allen head bolts.

there is a snap ring on the other side that needs to come off before you press anything out. once the snap ring is off just use a press if you have one to remove the coupler.

Yeah snap ring is off, and just use a press is the concern. That pressure is being distrubuted to (4) small bolts threaded into soft aluminum. That cover is only 3/16" aluminum.

    Hence my concern.

yeah the snap ring is the only thing holding the coupler in. the 4 screws and plate hold the bearing in which is not what you are pressing out. I forgot the snap ring and tried to press everything out and destroyed that plate. once snap ring is off tho press on the coupler and it comes out without the bearing

@ToyRyd04 Is that the dual row? If it is remove the 4 bolts and press it out from the back. The snap ring is on there so the bolts have something to retain, those bolts are holding the bearing in place.

Yep sure is, and that was my thinking too. What threw a curve ball in is that all 4 of those bolts are covered by the low range gear still. Stuck with no way to access it.

The dual case coupler in pressed into the dual row bearing though right? So when your pressing out the coupler, wouldnt that put pressure on the bearing thats putting pressure on the 4 bolts holding that plate on?

Im either confused, or making this way harder than needed.

Maybe this will help illustrate better.

The two red rectangles represent the blocks I will set this adpater on (this is the reverse side that fill face down).

You can see that the blocks just barely put pressure on that bearing retainer plate. My thinking is that will give and break if the press puts any kind of pressure on that bearing.

You need to remove that big ass c clip off the coupler and slide it out.

That c clip is off, took a heavy duty set, but managed to get that off.

I took a punch and a few taps to the coupler and it didnt even budge. The snap ring groove is still visible, that what I was using to base on if the coupler was slowly coming out.

You have the hardest part done, fuck that c clip!! I would use a press and slowly try to press the coupler out of there, less likely to crack it. Remember red lock tite is a must on those 4 bolts when you put it all back together!

Just press the coupler out now. It's the only. Find someone with a press and it just slides out.

Get the blocks as close to the gear as possible. Press on the coupler. Between the blocks holding the edges and the 4 allens and bearing being presssed into the housing, I don't think you will have any issue.

I've never had to take a Inchworm coupler out lol.. I've had to take apart TG and Advance.

The press between coupler and bearing is not as tight as press between bearing and housing so it should not take too much to press it out.

Other adapters just use the 4 allens and no plate and they seem to handle pressing the coupler out just fine.

Any more questions text me 801-885-9813 Got to go finish installing a Lefty in the bosses Taco.

Got it off, so hammer and punch wouldn't make it budge. But, two pumps on a press and it came right out.

    Thanks guys.

    Onto the 4.7 swap.

Wow they really changed up that bearing retainer setup on the new adapters.
