I'm going to try out a 2017 SR5 AC V6 tomorrow. What should I look for in relation to rear differential noise (which might show up after purchase) and the transmission shifting/hunting. I'm in CT. I'll take the truck on I 95 for a bit. I'd like to actually experience the two problems. I plan on leaving the truck stock. Thanks

I haven't noticed the howl but my truck will definitely search 4-6 on the interstate while running CC @ 75. The shift to 4th gets annoying.
If I don't run the CC, it really isn't an issue. It will drop to 5th on a grade but the shift is smooth and doesn't bother me.
I really like the truck and if I could change one thing, it would be the seat. Would like to see a longer base and actual adjustments.

Get it up to 55 and feather the throttle. You should be able to hear it and make go away by either letting off the throttle or stepping on it. As far as the transmission you will notice it hunting especially up a hill or a slight grade. From what I've noticed in mine it happens more when you are light on the throttle. I would have them manually check the trans fluid before you sign the papers that way it's done and you don't have to fight with them to get it done later on. One more thing you may notice is the vibration under 30 when stopping. This is most likely pinion angle and something you may want to have addressed. Yes it may have a few things wrong with it but I still love mine and expect it to last. Hope that helps!

I have test driven three different 17 4x4 OR DCSB trucks and have not experienced and of the "symptoms" commonly associated with these trucks. Coming from a 2012 Jetta TDI, I noticed the Taco was extremely quite and smooth for a truck. I just wish VW hurries up on their buyback so I can purchase mine! Best of luck OP!

Ask if you can have it for an overnight test drive, my dealer let me have one to test drive for a couple days. If you have it longer than a standard 10 minute drive you will have a chance to get into more everyday situations.

Hey Mark, just give it a good test run with the type of driving you normally do. I dont experience any issues that most people have mentioned. The engine and transmission are unique and make sure you go in with an open mind and with realistic expectations. This is a lifestyle truck built for the pavement.

For what its worth I havent had any of the transmission problems out of my 2017 tacoma that others have mentioned.( majority seem to be 2016 ). Infact my experiance has been opposite from that and I absolutely love the way the transmission is performing. Holds highway speeds great without downshifting even with cruise on. And also when climbing mountains witch i do frequently it will hold the speed i want and even increase slightly without downshifting if im light on the pedal. And i cant say the same for any of the other automatic mid sized and even full sized trucks ive owned. Oo yea just crossed 3k miles on the tacoma.
