I've been hearing the dreaded Tacoma rattle lately, so I've read some other threads about it. I'm assuming it's the heat shield on the cat but how am I supposed to tell. I can hear the rattle at 1500 rpm, and while in reverse backing up my drive way. My Tacoma has 166k miles on it btw.

    1) crawl under and smack the shield with a rubber mallet.
    2) while under look at the front of the shield, the front clamp & bolts is usually where they rot first.

My front one completely rotted off. I never replaced it, as i'm trading in my truck hopefully soon.
