What winch are you installing? How's the winch fitment/clearance?

Yes you have to cut you can see the cut in the photo:sawzall:. Nicely done with some door trim to give it a very clean look!!

    Excellent.

Wait....I'm doing this install as we speak too....same winch....how were you able to get it in with the solenoid still installed?

    OK-
    Install is complete.
First, a minor bone to pick with SSO, as the Zeon series winches do not fit natively. You have to make other undocumented modifications to make them fit- documentation I will provide below.

First, as per the other thread, there is no need to remove the bumper cover to install.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2016-sso-slimline-bumper.434910/page-21

Use 1" (.91) painters tape to mark out the cut and and trim the bumper according the instructions... be conservative in your tape placement. Jam a screwdriver handle or the like to separate the side black plastic trims from the bumper cover while cutting the final crease. This was the easiest part actually.
Lightly sand/file to clean up the edge and apply the provided door edging.

Remove the center bumper by removing the 6 14mm nuts. It was finicky, I had to take of the the front aluminum for it to loosen up. It's a little awkward getting all the bolts, but way easier to not have to pull the bumper cover.

That's it. If you don't have a winch, stick the bumper on, add the 10.9 bolts and the brackets.

Don't forget to fluid film inside the bumper if you're into that (I did).

Now, if your adding a winch, especially one with a top mounted solenoid, you'need to make more room.

You do this by removing the vertical support in the middle (3 10mm at the top, 1 10mm attaching to the tranny oil cooler, and 1 at the bottom). You also need to remove the horizontal support under the lower grill (2 nuts on each end by the headlights and 4 plastic trim clips) and where it connects to the vertical support. When both are out, grab a drill, and drill out the 3 fused rivet points and remove the stamped steel lower bridge connection (pictured, you can see the drill points).

When that's removed, install the bumper with winch mounted.

Reinstall the lower support. You'll find it may just rest on the top of the winch solenoid. Apply some felt or rubber to minimize scratching/rubbing.

Reinstall the vertical support in reverse order. Be careful of your hood latch.

And there ya go, a 10.000 lb winch with top mounted solenoid. I'm pretty certain you could apply this to a warn mseries top mounted solenoid (or other)...

I'll take a pic in the am when I spool it, you can see the WARN emblem through the lower grill grate. Ballin.

    Holler with questions-

If it didn't require a welder or a Bridgeport then I think that is a very minor bone, especially for shoehorning such a big winch.

It just wasn't disclosed. I was under the impression it would bolt up without all that... and I got the wrong bumper brackets.

It is minor, just 2x the time planned or allocated, and it's still not done.

Otherwise, delighted. Fits awesome, looks great, strong and functional.

I have so rarely gotten ANYTHING that actually bolted on I guess I'm a little jaded. I am very happy with how easy the SSO went on to my second gen.

Thank you for this write up. I have a Warn xd9000i that I pulled from my old truck and really didnt want to spend money on a new winch. I was told that it should fit however I was unaware of all this extra work involved. Good to know.

I think it was you who asked in the other thread about that cali raised led bar and fitment with a winch. Now that you have yours setup what do you think. Will it fit?

If your xd9 has a detachable solenoid box, I suspect it will bolt right on without any trouble, you'll just need to find an alternate location for the box.

    No way.
    1) the apex mounts interfere with the oem and SSO mounting points. I think you MAY be able to install it with a different set of mounts... However:
    2) Zeon or any top mounted solenoid place the solenoid where the light bar would go, so there's no way you can use it in this configuration.

If you use a smittybilt or other winch with a standalone solenoid AND a different set of light bar mounts you MAY be able to use the caliraised bar.

Anyone want a good deal on a apex and cali raised setup?

Love the bumper. I've been looking at it for months but other items are taking priority. I'll get one next year sometime for sure.

    I ordered the 1.54 x 0.83...clicked right into place.
