It's about time people woke up and smelled the writing on wall. Still should buy the manual though.

More gears=more shifting. Normal. No problem. Saving gas.

Sorry, not trying to be sarcastic to anyone; however, My tranny shifted like shit from the dealer...he would not check it... I did, and then filled it.... It has worked very nice ever since.... I was about 1 Lt. low.

Originally not Expo AF! Kinda Expo AF now...lame.
Having also recently owned 2 GMs I can tell you that the closest comparison I can make is this:

6th gear in this truck + VVT-i + Atkinson cycle is Toyota's version of GMs Torque Management and AFM (Active Fuel Management). In a way both use the ECU and camshafts + the transmission to achieve better MPG.

In the Silverado, when my 5.3L v8 when into v4 mode because of AFM, it was using what I think was a hydraulic actuator to move the camshaft a bit to achieve this. I THINK. People constantly complained the vehicle wouldn't say in v4 mode, and the slightest bump, or accelerator touch would go back to v8 mode. It's the same complaint people have of the 6th gear in the Tacoma. I never let it bother me and it never was a problem. Tow/Haul adjusted the shift mapping to keep the RPMs up, just like ETC does on the Tacoma.

In my Equinox, it used an Electronic Transmission shift mapping to keep RPMs down in ECO mode. Vehicle drove terrible, idled rough, I never used ECO mode. MPG was never that great in the Equinox, it was an underpowered 2.4L engine with a body approaching 4000lbs.
