I had this CEL come on in my Tacoma (07 Tacoma V6 4x4). It was also having a hard time starting, it would take about 10-20 seconds for the engine to engage and actually turn over. I usually do all maintenance on my own so I can save money on labor. I did a lot of searching on Google and Tacoma World, but with no direct solution. I'm not a good narrator, so I'll just cut straight to the solution.

First thing I did was scan the code. It came up to P0345. Since my truck is my daily driver this needed to be done quickly. I went to NAPA and got a replacement crankshaft position sensor. Spent 4 hours replacing that piece out (You have to move belt, starter, and ac compressor to access the sensor). I was having a slight issue getting to one of the AC Compressor bolt. I replaced the sensor and started the car. Same freaking issue and now another code popped up as well (I forgot what it was). I did some more research... decided that the starter was probably going out. Went to NAPA, got the starter and replaced that. Now, it starts normally and no check engine light. I tested my old sensor out, it was good, but I just replaced it anyways.

I know on the forum here people say it's hard to remove the starter. I think that it's a relatively easy job.

    1. Disconnect the battery
    2. Disconnect the connections to the starter (from the driver side, in the wheel well by removing the rubber splash.)
    3. Go under the truck, remove the two bolts holding the starter up. (You need a ratchet with 72 teeth or up, otherwise you'll have a hard time.)
    4. Be sure to brace your starter once you take out the bolts.
    5. Now, go to the engine bay. On the driver side of the engine, you'll have to disconnect some brackets and vacuum lines. You can even take out the battery to make it easier.
    6. Feed your starter through the engine bay.
    7. To put it back, do everything in reverse order.

Well, hopefully this helps some of you out.
