    Hey y'all,

After the death of my Harbor Freight special winch, its time to get a new one while the Christmas season is upon us. I was pretty set on a Warn VR8000 (the basic bitch of Warn winches). However, a pretty sweet deal on another Badlands (12,000) popped up on Craigslist that's making me rethink. I'd offer him $200.

Truck has full 1/4" skids, and DOM tubing front and rear bumpers, and sliders. The front bumper is massively heavy with the addition on a diamond plate top to hold lights and such.

The Warn doesn't mean the usual requirement of twice the weight +500, with all the armor, myself and a passenger, all our camping gear and mountain bikes in the back. The winch will also be used extremely frequently, as i'm a trail guide at the local off road park, and get some people including myself into very... peculiar positions on a frequent basis.

    Any recommendations would help!

    Plethora of "useless" shit
northridge4x4 has a coupon code(12days) that looks to still be active for 10% off. I picked up a vr10000-s from them using the coupon plus sent the warn mail in rebate in. So in the end I will have gotten an $850 winch($750 on sale) for $600

My .02 is if you're going to be frequently putting a winch through its paces, get the warn in the proper weight requirement. Buy once and cry once.

If you are using your winch "extremely frequently" you might want to consider something a couple steps up from a HF winch. The Warn VR series are decent, but still made in china, same as the badlands or smittybilt. You will find a dramatic increase in quality in US made winches, such as the Warn Zeon series. Granted, pretty big step up in price as well, but you definitely get what you pay for.
People seem to have good luck with ComeUp winches as well, I have no experience with them.

I might just save up for a new one.. issue is, I need something so I can get back on the trails. Plus i'm tryin' to ball on a college budget, haha. If i'm spending more than $300 i'm getting a Warn, even if it means I need to wait for a higher quality Warn.

That sounds like a good plan, I would say if you do go with a "budget" winch, make sure it's not your only means of recovery.
