240 off a stove can be a pretty nasty kick but meh. It all depends on the load.

Watched my friend have a 200amp panel in a house blow up in his face because he hit the back with a wire while tying in. Not pleasant. Still alive but he got enough of a burn on his hand from it to always be reminded of it.

the switch was also likely 120 for the dryer. Only 240 portion of a dryer usually is the heating element, all the controls and switches are 120V, thats why you have a 3 wire 4 prong plug for it and not a 2 wire 3 prong. Either way when dealing with anything electrical should always be careful, electricity is weird at times, could do the same thing 1000 times but on the 1001 time your hands could be a bit sweaty or something and you can get a nasty blast of something that you thought was nothing.

only takes like .2mA to stop your heart or throw it out of rhythm.

For my dash cam, I grounded at a bolt on the side of the footwell that held other ground connections. You can also drill one of the support braces and put in a sheet metal screw (also known as self-tapping screw). Frame ground is pretty much frame ground, you're not really worried about ground loops for this application.

Constant +12VDC I took from the empty fuse slot, and for ignition switched +12VDC I used the fuse for the aux power outlet; I think it was fifth down on the left as you're looking at the under dash panel. See the panel cover for the layout, it was fairly clear.

    These taps worked well: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BU59QA8

This is great thank you. The fuse says "P/Outlet No. 2" is that the one? (It's actually on the right side):

Yep that's the one. 15A. Fifth down on the *right* as you're looking at it... upside down...

    Sorry for the misdirection.

    bumping old thread.
is that power outlet 1 or 2 the ones inside the centre console and on the front dash?
    constant or no?
i want to add a 12v socket in the footwell for my dash cam as well but I want it switched so it comes on when the truck is on.
been trying to find where I can tie into or add a circuit too. but its too cold out to stay outside looking though all the electrical haha. Just need to know where to go and do it before I freeze my cock off.

Switched. I haven't been curious enough to discern which is which on the fuse block. I just picked one of the two AuxPower fuses. It isn't like a dash cam is a high draw device.

Why go to the trouble of a 12v socket and adapter vs. just hardwiring to an add-a-circuit?

I don't have a hardwire harness for my dash cam, and I usually transfer it between cars that I'm driving so need to be able to pull it out easy.

That's easily fixed... Hardwire your primary vehicles and keep the cig lighter plug for alternates.

Does your camera take 12VDC barrel or 5VDC microUSB?

honestly not sure. its a DOD tech one, pretty sure it takes 5VDC.
But I already bought the 12v socket so may as well just go that route.

had I had known that and didn't already open the package I would've went this route lol.
But I wouldn't doubt that same harness is close to $20 here in Canada, and the added 12V only cost me $8

No worries. File it away for when you get tired of kicking that 12V socket. :D

So I blew my fuse on my dome and map lights as well as the vanity lights so I'm gonna check the fuse tomorrow in better light. I just wanna know if anyone here knows a good retailer who carries the 7.5 amp fuse?

    O'Reilly Auto Parts

... any auto parts store ought to carry them.

Low-profile mini is what you want.

The puller tool is in the fuse box in the engine compartment. May be a spare fuse in there too if I remember correctly

This guy is new to trucks. He probably.tried to turn on the dome light like he would in a regular car and boom!

My favorite part about this thread is that op.someone managed to blow a fuse on his dome light and is about to jump into the fuse box (that he couldn't find on his own), and start screwing with stuff.

    This can only end well.

Maybe... disconnect the battery negative terminal?

I didn't and had no issue when I swapped mine out, but best practice for that socket would be to disconnect the power first.

The front map lights are fine since you're dropping the overhead console and there's no risk of shorting when changing the socketed bulbs.
