We're not totally in love with the performance of the 3M splice connectors, so we're going to stop supplying them.

When you get you kit, just toss the connectors in your toolbox for a rainy day, but we're suggesting not using them.

A spliced wire will be your best connection.

This is a little disappointing. I felt pretty comfortable and confident using wire taps to install the remote start. I am not good at soldering and not sure how clean splicing is or how it's even done.

Here was my separate email from KB Voodoo. Any good pics or video on doing splicing without accidentally cutting a wire into?

This message is regarding the 3M wire taps that were supplied with your kit:

We aren't 100% confident in the connection that these taps provide.

We are suggesting that you do not use them because we don't want to supply anything that we can't trust 100%.

A simple wire splice will be a much better connection. Using solder is even better.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

I just looked up a few videos on wire splicing techniques. So if I ever remove this starter for a warranty issue or any other reason, there will definitely be evidence the remote starter was installed.

Does anyone know if this could somehow be wired into the factory harness plug?

Even with the wire taps it would be obvious that it was installed.

Thanks for the info mthopton. I will order these right now and it looks like they will make the connection easier.

I'm still pretty excited about getting this starter installed.

No problem. If I had to remove the posi-taps for a warranty issue, a small piece of black vinyl tape would easily cover the spot.

One last question about the posi tap connectors, do you cut the factory wire completely and then slide the wires into the connectors?

Appreciate the quick help you guys offer on this forum.

Note that you'll want posi-tap and not posi-locks. The locks could work for the auto-headlights though if you have the premium and tech package. You also don't want the blues. Look on ebay for the 24-26 mini-taps which should work for all but the 12v wire which would probably need a yellow.

let us know how it goes. I spliced and soldered but probably would have spent the extra few bucks and tried the taps if I were doing it over. Using a utility knife and soldering iron is a tedious process under the dash.

I am going to try to use these
    https://www.sparkfun.com/products/116

And solder the pins on and push them in back of each harness connector.

Worked for my mirror mounted radar detector plugged into the power from the mirror.
At least there won't be any dealer service issues you can always pull out to disconnect.

Be interesting to see the results as that could be a good alternative for the masses. Won't help with the auto-headlights part though which I'm guessing you could just skip those wires and still be good.

I think you won't have a choice but to cut the wires and splice them to the unit.
As I do have auto head lights and actually use them.

As per alternatives for the masses it would be a business decision to start what voodoo does and make it a more complete package

If you aren't going to solder, this is how we recommend splicing the wires:

The white wire represents the wire that you are splicng into, the black represents a wire from the harness

Take a razor blade or sharp pocket knife, and strip a section of the white wire. Then use your wire strippers to strip the end of the black wire.

Fold the stripped section of the white wire as shown

    Now, twist the wires together

Then, fold the twisted wires against the white wires, and wrap with electrical tape

I used heavier gauge wire for the pictures, but it will be even easier with the smaller wire in the truck.

Make sure to twist the wires tight, and tape tight and generously.

If you splice the wires together as shown in the previous post, there would be no need to solder.

If you have a couple pieces of wire laying around, give it a test try. It's very easy.
