I wanted to do a quick build thread on what I spent some vacation time doing this past week.

My goal with this truck is to build a rig that's all set up for overland, but is super easy to hunt/fish with. After racking my brain for weeks and weeks I finally decided that my next priority should be camp set up. I set out the goal of being able to set up or tear down a camp in less than 10 minutes. To do that, I needed some sort of bed system to go along with the roof top tent that I'll be ordering soon.

I really liked the goose gear storage systems, but just haven't found the sugar momma needed to stick $3000 worth of it in the back of my truck, so I dusted off my saws and got to work.

The driver side is a full length drawer. It turns out that heavy duty 60" drawer slides are quite spendy, so I made my own. Following what I've seen some folks on expedition portal do, I used 38 skateboard bearings and some steel square tubing. I can't believe how well this turned out. Super smooth and easy to slide. I finished this all off with the compression latch that comes with the goose gear system.

The passenger side is a slide for my cooler (and maybe a fridge some day). I originally wanted to build the cooler/stove slide out, but just couldn't get everything to come together how I wanted. Even worse, this slide out shrunk on me once done :(. Still functional, but will probably redo this bit down the road sometime. Behind the cooler slide is room for gas cans and water jugs, things like that.

I think it is creative...and pretty darn cool!!
The finished product looks awesome. I am curious how the pine boards will hold up, as pine is a softwood and very susceptible to warping, and splitting along the grain. IMHO, 3/4" plywood would be a better choice for strength and longevity. As you stated, you will probably make changes in the future, but this is a great concept...especially with the skate bearings! Thanks for the idea...

    Very nice!!!

I have thought of doing the same thing in a couple years when I start outfitting my taco. My thought was two very short bed length drawers, one foam cut for long guns and one foam cut for my bow. Above those I was thinking a pull out fridge and a large pull out storage like yours.

This is a great idea! I'm going to try to design something like this that fits over the wheel wells. I have a swing case there now, but it doesn't hold as much as I would like. Maybe something like this over the wheel well and attached to the bed rails so it could be secured but also removable.
