My '15 Tacoma had an oil change at the dealer before I bought it (back on the 5th of Dec.) and the next oil change on the sticker is in May 2017. Isn't that too long for an oil change? I thought it's done every 3K miles or three months.

    Same as everybody else...
I change at 5 months or 5k, unless you tow a lot or otherwise operate your truck in extreme conditions I'd go with that. Look at your owners manual and read what Toyota recommends. You can also search the forums here at TW, oil and oc intervals are discussed quite a bit.

5k miles.... if u want to get technical, send a sample to blackstone labs and see what they say based off of your truck.

    Yea. About 30 years ago.

Read the owners manual. What guidance does it give? If you are still under warranty, use that, not the dealer sticker.

Once out of warranty, as @inwood customs suggests, send a sample off to Blackstone and let them tell you the life left in your oil. That data will be both oil and engine health specific. Be prepared to spend less time having oil changes.

BTW, recommend finding a good independent mechanic to do stuff like this for you. Will be higher quality than the Jiff Lube world, less costly than the dealership world.

My 2015 has been changed every 5k by the dealer for free. Last free maintenance coming up in about a month though at 25k.
