What did the OP use for the sides? The flat plate with the rounded ends, was that custom?

I used a 2.5in wide piece of aluminum I found at my local mom&pop hardware store.

I used a good old hacksaw to get the general shape and a file and a lot of elbow juice to get mine how I wanted it.

Yes, I used a jigsaw with a metal blade, then used a flat bar file and a sanding block to really smooth it out. Depending on how perfect you want the shape if you had a grinding wheel, that would make quick work of it.

@Jamart5 I'm interested, it would be a great help to complete something that already has been started. What issues did you run into?

Me and @BYJOSHCOOK drilled ten holes in his can for a prinsu rack. Turned out good but def a bit nerve racking. He could steer you in the right direction if you decide to do it.

Ya old post I happened to run across. Pretty cool idea for a cheap diy rack for sure.

I saved these old posts and I'm going to build one this weekend for my 1st gen taco, but I have a question....How do you put a small version on the cab ?? Do you drill through the roof of the CAB an bolt it on the same as the cap,I hate the the thought of bolts and nuts sticking through the interior of the cab but I can't think of any other way....

Most people attempting this use rivnuts, which come as a kit you can purchase at Lowes, home depot....etc.
