I ordered mine last month during their $100 off sale... But they told me it was going to be Jan-Feb before it ships. Mine will be going on an ARE Z Series with Yakima tracks and crossbars. I'll let you know how it goes once I get it mounted. I was curious about the back hatch as well.

Thanks, They are still listed for $299...good deal. Website says they'll ship April 2017 (or maybe sooner).

They emailed me back and said u-bolts can be used to mount to the bars instead of their mounting hardware. That may help with clearance.

I should pull the trigger and simply return if it doesn't work.

Time to learn how to do this I guess

Also, buddy's dad makes pens and gave me this for Christmas. The top is a reel, there's a fish, the clip is a fly rod, and a guy fishing down at the bottom where the pen comes out. And the shaft (giggity) is made out of bamboo.

I haven't bought a fly in probably 3 years. Getting into tying is really rewarding and relaxing, but you will end up spending a lot of money. It's kind of like TW in terms of trucks haha.

Well, it's the only thing I asked for as far as Christmas gofts go. Mom spent about $200 on the vise and tools. Now I just have to go get the materials

Try to pick out a few patterns, then just buy what you need for those flies. It's super easy to buy a bunch of stuff you might never use... (guilty) ;)

If possible take a class at a local fly shop. Don't just learn the flies learn the techniques and buy the best hooks you can afford.

Busted CV boots and lots of squeaks.
I don't tie (don't have the time) but plan to start back one day. I tried years ago when I was about 15, and this seems to be some of the most sound advice I could think of. Makes a lot of sense.

What are some hooks to look for?
I haven't started tying (yet) but am very curious about it.
    Thanks.

The same shit everyone else has.
I have a 9' 5w Clearwater rod that I enjoy fishing on larger streams.

Yup. Start simple too. Pick a few patterns and roll with it. I stared tying green weenies for a LONG time until I got comfortable. I feel like I could tie almost anything at this point.

Watch Youtube videos. They help a TON when trying to teach yourself. Some of my favorite Youtube tiers are Tim Flagler (Tight Lines), In the Riffle, Tim Camisa, Jim Misiura, and Holsingers Fly Shop/

Personally, I like Tiemco. Good sharp points, never have to sharpen out of the box, not that way with some of the others.

Ive had good luck with all the name brand hooks Ive used. The only ones I would not purchase again are J Stockard brand hooks. They are VERY brittle and break easily.
