The goal is to completely remove the stock JBL system. And replace it with a pair of 6.5" components in the front only with a sub. Unfortunately I'm fairly tone deaf so quality speakers would be pointless. I'm just looking for something that will be better sounding then the stock sounds I'm currently tolerating, something to hide all the squeaks and rattles that I hear while on the trail. Also looking at a sub box that will allow me to use the rear seat in the up right right position, not retaining the plastic storage bins won't be an issue.

This is what I've been looking at that will hopefully pair well. I already have an Alpine HU installed.

    • Alpine 6.5" components- Model: SPS-610C
    • 2ch Blaupunkt GTA 270 DSP
    • Alpine V-Power MRV-M250 250 Watt Mono Class D
    • Kicker 10" sub- Model 10TC104
What sub would be better? Not looking to impress anybody, just looking for a balanced system. Both are currently on sale at Best Buy and that's why I'm considering them. How much of a difference would a 12" sub make overall?

Pretty much anything. Since you're looking at Alpine stuff for the rest, maybe consider a Type S or Type R sub? It's all uphill from that comp stuff though.

All things equal, probably ~2-3 dB compared to the same 10.

FWIW, you can do all this with a single 4-channel amp...maybe 75-100W/channel and bridge 2 channels to a sub. Maybe use the savings there to put toward a nicer sub or Type R components or both? It'll save you some install headache too and take up less room.

I read a lot of disappointed posts from Best Buy mobile audio customers...installs in particular. Just sayin'. Last resort IMO.
