Twas 2 days before Christmas, and all through the DMV...

So, this was just days after my boss hired me as her personal assistant, on December 23, 2014 to be exact. My boss moved from Nebraska in 2011 but procrastinated on getting her driver's license transferred to Pennsylvania. Before long, her license was two months from expiring! Then one month! Then, boom! It expired! I ended up taking her to the DMV to get it transferred, and by the time I actually did take her to the DMV, her license had been expired for almost a month! But wait, it gets better!

She'd actually lost her wallet which contained her expired Nebraska license! She had to send away to Nebraska DMV for a certified copy of her driving record. Luckily, Pennsylvania has a grace period. If your out-of-state driver's license is valid or has been expired 6 months or less, you don't have to take the written or road test!

I drove her to the DMV 2 days before Christmas in 2014, and it was surprisingly not all that crowded. My friend showed her social security card, birth certificate, and all that BS, and had to take a vision test. Then, they took her picture and she got a Pennsylvania driver's license! No tests! We were in and out of the DMV in like an hour! Again, she had no physical license in her possession, just a piece of paper from the state of Nebraska saying she had an expired license but that her driving privileges were not suspended or revoked.

As we walked out to my Tacoma, I asked her if she wanted to take her first official drive as a Pennsylvania licensed driver. She said yes, and I tossed her the keys.

Keep in mind that I am an overweight 5'11" guy who weighed about 260 pounds at the time. My boss is a 5'3" Asian woman. As many of you know, base model regular cab Tacos have bench seat that does NOT have separate adjustments for driver and passenger. My boss adjusted the seat to her height and my knees were up against the dashboard!

One complaint my boss always had about my driving prior to that day was my excessive use of the brakes in stop-and-go traffic. At the time, she'd been driving an old GMC Safari owned by the owner of the bar. This, of course, had less-than-stellar braking performance. Before we even made it out of the DMV parking lot, my boss taps the brake pedal and says "Damn! You have good brakes!" She then proceeds to tell me that she will never criticize my braking ever again.

So yeah, it's a Christmas miracle! The one time the DMV actually provided good service!

The 1995 4Runner I bought two years ago had an MSRP of $31,000 when new. Staggering.

I spent 35 years on the road driving a semi, and the single thing that would get me the maddest is a drunk driver! Texting morons are bad enough, but a drunk will make me pop my cork! Sadly, the other day, I saw a video of a loon in a semi swerving and wandering all over the road before being stopped in Minnesota. When the trooper had him get out of the truck, he literally fell out, since he was too drunk to stand! he actually had 2 large bottles of Vodka in the front of the truck with him! What made it worse to me is he drove for the same company that I did for 18 years. What gives me a little satisfaction, though, is the knowledge that he is FINISHED as a truck driver for the rest of his life, he will NEVER get another CDL, and the company fired him right there! They will send someone to collect his truck, take all his gear and possessions out of it, and leave them in a pile at whatever terminal they take the truck to! It will be HIS problem to get home from the middle of Minnesota to wherever he lives, after collecting his stuff, at his own expense. Thank goodness he did get stopped before hitting anyone else or doing any major damage.

I appreciate your enthusiasm and ability when it comes to writing, but maybe put it in the off topic threads. Your prolific creation of new threads is pointing toward a need for attention, not a desire to learn more about Tacomas.

I saw that video! That was like the most patient cop in the world. Why would he go 18 years without a problem then start guzzling vodka while driving?

After I got hit by a drunk driver and brought my truck into the body shop for repairs, I asked the owner if he could install a trailer hitch on my truck. He said he could, but recommended I go through the dealership. Next time my truck needed an oil change, I took it to the dealership and got a quote for a trailer hitch. I was told like $600! Some time later, I took it to UHAUL and was quoted a little over $300.

Has anybody else put a UHAUL hitch on their truck, and if so are they satisfied? Are there better-quality options out there?

I don't think drunks are trash. I think drunk drivers are trash. Just about everybody has gotten drunk at least once in their life. The difference between me and the idiots is that I leave my truck at home and use Uber when I know I'n gonna be drinking.

Honestly when I put mine on it was four bolts and that was it... mine is a Hidden Hitch and as the name says it is pretty hidden plus had built in holder for a 7-pin harness. I paid $170 for the hitch and a six pack of beer for a buddy to help me out.

As far as UHaul hitches go my uncle has one on his SUV for ages and so far it has been good, nothing to report or complain.
