I'm getting older too, with a little shoulder impingement on the arm I usually use to grab and install the oil filter. What I did different this oil change is to go in under the passenger side wheel well and worked out great and used my other arm. I will remove the plug by going under the front, but will now change the oil filter by going under the P-side.

Quart sized ziplock method here, works as best as anything else I've tried. Bring a roll of paper towels with you before you head under the truck to mop up whatever still dribbles out.

So my 2013 hit 45000 miles this week and decided today was the day to change the oil. After reading about all the spills, I dreaded doing it!..After draining the oil out, I found an old gallon plastic milk container, cut the bottom off and then cut a slot out on one side. I loosened the oil filter up enough to spin my hand and put the milk container up and around the filter and housing, loosened it up and let it drop. Hard to believe, but I dont think I spilled a drop of oil.

I'm going to look into making an adapter that flips the filter housing 180 degrees so the filter is on top. Fumoto valve it too

That would be interesting. I see some challenges but I'd like to see what you come up with.

I use the plastic bag and don't spill any out and the bag doesn't get twisted. the only crap I get on me is grease on my left arm from my upper control arm.

I use a one gallon ziplock style bag with paper towels in the bottom to absorb the oil from the filter.

reach up to the filter with my right arm holding the bag. left arm goes into the oil filter from behind the upper control arm and between the splash guard.

left hand grabs the top of the bag and helps guide it over the filter and hold it up so it doesn't drop or twist.

right hands turns the filter 1/8 to 1/4turn, whatever it can get. then when resetting to get another turn bring the bag back to untwisted position with your hand. keep making those turns and resetting the bag each time.

by doing that and holing the top with your left hand it doesn't fall or twist and catches the filter if it drops.

then you can take the bag from your left hand with your right and bring down out of the engine bay.

only oil that drips is what is on the nipple the filter threads to and my skids catch that. best method I've found and would be completely clean afterwards if I didn't have greaseable uca's.
