    Some really cool shit

Shit, that's awesome mileage. My 79 Bronco Ranger XLT only got 8 or 9 mpg. The engine had been modified a tad. I loved that beast, but it sucked the gas too damned fast. That's when I bought a 94 4Runner.

Yep. 351M400. Balanced, blueprinted. High performance Cam. Headers. Bunch of crap. Didn't matter if you were driving nicely down the road, or pulling a house. 8 to 9 mpg. Gearing was nuts. Previous owner had done a bunch of stuff I had to remove to legally smog the beast. All the speed mods he did weren't worth a crap since he left the factory gearing in place. Owners manual said the prime cruising speed was 45! Some day I'd love to own a First Gen. But, much like your reasoning not to get a Jeep, I need the room for dogs and hunting gear.

8- 10 miles to the gallon on mine. 351W, 4:56 gears, 37 inch tires, would get rid of the taco in a heart beat if i had to choose.
