I have a brand new 2017 SR5 and a set of these lights.

The first lights I decided to try and replace were the ones next to the drivers side vanity mirror, but I didn't get very far. I popped off the plastic face, and when started twisting the bulb in my fingers to see how it was in the socket, it sparked.

I had no idea it was going to be that touchy, so from now on, any time I touch the lighting I'm going to disconnect the battery. But now, the issue now is that none of the other lights are working inside the cab. I don't know much about electronics, but I've changed light bulbs before, so I thought this would be a piece of cake.

I assume that means I blew a fuse? I tried looking in the fuse box under the hood, and everything looked fine. I also tried taking a look at the fuse box on the drivers side, but I'm not sure what to do here.

So at this point I pretty much I only know that I need to replace a fuse, but I'm not sure which one or how to even figure out which one. I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me figure out what I need to do from here.

Fixed it. I was assuming all the lights had separate fuses, but the vanity lights used the dome fuse.

Reiterating for future google search results: All lights in the cab in 3rd gen 2017 toyota tacomas go through the 7.5 A DOME FUSE

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
You can often see the break (as I assume you did?) could also try looking at the fuse box diagram to see if it mentions one that is nearby (as you did.)

When you turned the light you cause a short, that was the spark. That overloaded the fuse and it protected the circuit as it should have. Could have been worse, at least you fixed it!

The light was actually on when I was fiddling with it, I just assumed car lights were the same as home lights, so I was thinking that the worst that could happen would it lost contact and turned off.

Lesson learned, from now on I'm going to disconnect the battery anytime I'm doing anything that involves electricity.

Angry pixies don't fuck around.

You can get a little 12v cigarette lighter doo-dad that takes a 9v battery and keeps your radio settings/trip meters/and such. I found mine at PepBoys.

Blown fuse. Check box(es) for burnt up fuses.

I wouldn't just disconnect the battery. Next time just pull the fuse for the light bulb. Disconnecting the battery causes the computer to reset and lose valuable diagnostic information as well as engine and transmission "learn" data. Not to mention having to reprogram your radio! Easiest step is just to pull the dome fuse.

I blew both headlight fuses wiring up a HID harness last night. It drove me crazy since the fuses are downstream of the relays. I could hear the relays clicking but the lights wouldn't work so I thought I was going crazy for a few min...

Get one of those 9v cigarette things that keep all those settings for you.

Not a fan of those really because:
    1. Only works if you have a 12V constant power cig lighter port.
    2. Can still blow a fuse if when changing the bulb you short the bulb connection.

Thus my idea of simply pulling the fuse for the courtesy light is the easiest and safest method.
