Update:

Installed. OCTaco/Goodridge brand extended brake lines, stainless, clear sleeve.

Rear 23 inches (OEM is 19)
Front 14.5 inches (OEM is 11.5)




After much discussion and debate, I was skeptical of seeing an improvement in brake feel/performance, which merely would have been a bonus, because I put these on primarily for mid travel droop. In the future I will be installing aftermarket pads, but only after the OEM pads wear out, currently at only 12.5k miles.

I must say that there is a clear improvement in feel and firmness as foot pressure is increased. Toward the end of pedal range, when pressure is highest, is noticeably more firm. Not dramatic, but noticeable. This is based on city grid stop-and-go driving, which is pretty typical for me most days. I did some hard stops and some routine daily route braking into sharp 90 degree turns at normal speeds.

No other modifications were made at the time of line install to muddy perceptions or results.

I thought my brakes felt firmer but given everything changed at once I considered it likely to just be butt dyno placebo effects. I guess I really did feel something.

So I should point out that while looking through the FSM on this, one of the inspection points is to check if the OEM rubber brake lines are bulging and need to be replaced. I guess my new stainless lines won't be covered by my Toyota warranty LOL.

Today was chamferfest.

I pulled apart the Daks, cleaned off the spotty, useless, random grease, chamfered the tips, and sprayed some Rustoleum on the wounds.

This shows how I'll be modifying them:

Remove 2nd overload, insert D29XL AAL, remove pucks:

This will reduce friction and gouging as the leaf tips slide against the leaf above them during articulation, smoothing action and reducing potential noise. Otherwise, the have very rough cut, angular ends. The next step will be degreasing followed by a generous coat of

$16 CRC 3084 Dry Moly Lube, (Net Weight: 11 oz.) Dark Gray, Original Version

CRC dry moly lube before reassembly.




Rustoleum high heat black does not require primer.


While the chamfer junk was out, I went after the @Bentrodder bed side support brackets around the edges that will be subject to lots of abrasion during loading and unloading. I'd like to get a chamfer drill bit to hit the large tie down loops on the vertical gussets too, or I might just find a machine shop I can swing by and see if I can get it knocked out with minimal hassle. Ropes passing through these holes would be prone to high friction and possible severing, plus sharp angles are where coatings (paint or PC) tend to fail first. I may have these powder coated to try out a local shop before committing to handing over my King coils to them...whenever they arrive.


That's all I could manage today. Weather permitting, I might be able to apply the dry moly to the Dakars this weekend, but I'll need to wait until my spring clip liners arrive from ARB warranty before I can reassemble.
