did a little googlulating and found out its called a "dash pot" its supposed to slow down the last amount of throttle return to help prevent stalling with a manual trans.

me and my slush box wouldnt know anything about that...

If you look directly above the pencil tip in the pic and just in the background, you can see the butterfly valve adjustment. it may not be a legit idle adjustment but it is another point to adjust the butterfly further closed.

Yeah if I plunge that in a hair the butterfly seats fully.

I think I'm going to leave it alone for now and see if the high idle goes away. If it continues then I might adjust it.

If I adjust that screw though it doesn't seem like the "plunger" will mechanically sit further in. I have to push on it a bit in order for that to happen.

Exactly what I just described. Plunger never did go any deeper, adjusting the screw allows the linkage to hit it less and the butterfly closes more.

    Update:

Put everything back together and fired it up. There's no more play to help it seat all the way. So I dunno.

Of course it's idling high as fuck right one as it's relearning itself.

Update 2: when I turn the truck off, the play in the linkage is back.

I obviously have no clue wtf is going on.

Check engine light is off, but I also threw on a new TPS sensor so that's probably why.

Maybe if you wouldn't clean it so much, it would work better. :notsure: :p

I'm up to 268k on my truck, don't think the throttle body and intake has ever been cleaned.

I've wondered about this too. Seemms like folks that do this are trying to troubleshoot other issues. :notsure:

Mine 'only' has 166K but I know the only thing ever cleaned on the intake system is the MAF. That was at least 60K ago when I did the deck plate mod. The TB has never been disturbed.

I've never cleaned my MAF either.

I think @Madjik_Man 's problem is he never revs the thing above 2K. Take 'er up to redline and burn out some carbon!

Great... here comes the peanut gallery now.

Last time I cleaned it was 4 years/50,000 miles ago.

Call me crazy but when I've had a check engine light and high idle (cold, warm, whenever) since August I feel like I should troubleshoot and fix :notsure:

    So back off, punk.

Hey man... the first time you rode in my truck I showed off for you. I shifted at 3000 rpms once or twice.

Continued Resealing the tubs today after hunting down a leak.
Finished the passenger side up with a gook layer of spray on leak seal after the autobody sealant was painted over and dry for added protection.

It's less Tacoma and more mod
The slack is going away because there is a little vacuum diaphragm that pushes the throttle open and dampens the blow between shifts for manual trucks. It was sucked in allowing the butterfly to fully close but you turned off the truck and the diaphragm popped out to open the butterfly again in hopes of a smoother shift or a nice start.

That is normal behavior just so you aren't chasing a gremlin that doesn't exist.

In this pic its the thing this guys finger is in front of... I don't have a 5vz or I'd take some pics for you.
