I am not as smart and well versed as u when it comes to trucks but I am sure that Lexus doesn't make a pick up, can u please enlighten us to a light duty pick up that's better and has less issues other than Toyota trucks

Now you're being honest with yourself, so that is a good start. As for a light duty truck, there might not be a better one, but that wasn't the point. The point is that Toyota doesn't just want to be a little better than the competition, they want to strive for zero defects.

Let's try an example you can relate to. Suppose that the average IQ in your family is 12. If yours is 68, does that make you a genius?

No, it is still considered well below genius, or in our case "World Class".

    Simple huh?

I personally agree that it is the best you can get, right now, but it's not world class.

When I was researching gen 3's to replace my gen 2, I almost backed out of buying it because of all the negative comments. then I noticed nearly all were by the same person. Upon reading other posts, that same person always chimed in with a negative response. That was the deciding factor. Not everything is that bad. I went ahead and bought a 17 and find it almost flawless. There are a few things I'm not wild about but they are here to stay. Don't care for push button start and would prefer a 4 speed transmission, but that is because I am old.

Anyone who thinks that any auto manufacturer has the goal of zero defects is delusional. If you think Lexus is any where near the top you are a moron.

The only reason auto makers exist is to make a profit. The idea of zero defects/zero returns would send cold chills up the spine of a CEO. One of the largest metrics tracked in any manufacturing facility is "cost of quality" how that cost is determined varies greatly depending on what is produced. However, no matter what the product is each fraction of a percent of returned goods has an impact on profit/loss.

The point where returns are eating the profit is easy to identify, less visible is where too little returns eat profit. Quality costs, just like any other component in a manufactured product. Do not think for a moment that this fact is not well understood by Toyota. It costs a lot to remove tiny niggling little issues like interior rattles, paint imperfections etc. If 1000 cars are returned for a particular defect, 5,000 to 10,000 more had the same defect but the owner didn't want the hassle of having it repaired. This is profit generation for the car maker.

Toyota (or at other auto maker) doesn't have to make a perfect product, all they have to do is create the illusion that they are better than the competitors. Just like the old story about two hikers in bear country...I'm not worried about being eaten by a grizzly because I don't need to out run the grizzly, I just need to out run you.

It's not an opinion. Do you know a single thing about TPS?

If not, you should google it, smart guy.

After exhaustive reading on Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), I have decided you are a lot smarter than the average Tacoma worlder. Single or paired pulse TMS causes neurons in the neocortex under the site of stimulation to depolarize and discharge an action potential. If used in the primary motor cortex, it produces muscle activity referred to as a motor evoked potential (MEP) which can be recorded on electromyography. Very interesting, Doctor.

You sound like you know what you're talking about, most of it I agree with. Google is great and lots of morons like Lexus.

You would come across as more credible without resorting to name calling. It really detracts from your point.

    In any event....

I've been in the industry a very long time and yes we do strive for zero defects. For instance, we don't deliver a product that we know I defective just because we've met our 98% metric for the month. No, we fix the Damn thing.

Cost of quality is something we track closely, but the cost of poor quality is what is our primary focus. But, you were close.

I don't consider a howling hole or a rattle in a dash a major defect, or really that big of deal.
Some on here do and bitch all day every day.
Even glue on on hood which I don't have a problem wouldn't bother me. Its a quick fix. The howling diifs it seems now are not mechanically flawed as was bitched about for months on end.
If I get 250K out of my truck with no main issues, I will continue to laugh at all of the BS posts I read every day about trivial matters.
Your IQ comparison is flawed, as minor flaws IMO really don't take away from it.
Look at Honda this year when they didn't put the c-clips on the connecting rods in the Civics engines and halted production. BIG difference. Now that's a big problem, where a howling hole that is discussed for MONTHS is not and doesn't affect the "IQ".
So who is world class ? I own Toyota's, best value, resale, and dependability IMO.
