I have a 2017 DCSB that I like. I have no transmission issues. I think the truck has good power, gets decent mileage and I am generally happy with it.

However, it has wind noise. Nothing strange, just loud, like the windows are open.

I checked my gaps and seals and they are all tight. I tried putting some 3/8 round foam under the door seal and maybe it made a minute improvement, but I don't think so.

I did take 3/8 foam and put it in the channel on the sides of the windshield. I'm not sure why there is moulding with a channel and sharp edge on the side of the window, but there are. The stuff I used is called caulking saver and I got it at the hardware store. It's 3/8" and round. It's foam so it can be easily stuffed into small places.

I noticed a large improvement in noise, but I need to leave the foam in there for a week and see if that changes.

Has anyone else experimented with this?

If it is an actual success then I will find a black more rubber/silicone material and make it permanent.
    Thoughts?

Another shot. The foam isn't very noticeable and it's grey. IMG_5009.jpg

I too am constantly checking my window buttons to make sure they are all up tight. This is usually followed by a morose sigh and an increase in the radio volume with the slippery knob. Thank you for trouble shooting, I will give it a shot.

I'll experiment tomorrow since I have a bunch of backerrod on hand. I've been driving with my back seats down a lot lately for my 4 legged friend. I have wind/road noise coming from the rear cab vents (made alot more noise with seats down) so might want to look there too.

I have noticed road noise from the rear of the cabin. It's not right in my ear and at this time doesn't bother me. But I do know what your talking about.

The rear is likely the cab vents behind the seat you'll have to search the forums for rear cab vents and you'll probably find plenty of info on this issue. Wind noise and howling rear differential is a lovely combo on a $40k truck ain't it?

Any quality issue is a disappointment.

I view the toyotas as durable and off-road capable small truck. They definitely lack the comforts of some other vehicles. However, they cost less and have a better resale value than their Dodge/Ford/Chevy counterparts.

This 2017 is much nicer than my previous Toyota pickup, which was a 1983 model. If I get aggravated by noises and quality issues then I will sell this truck and get another Jeep or Silverado.

Call Toyota customer service, get a incident #, and take it to the dealer, that's what warranties are for. There are some other threads about this, and other people think it's the A pillar causing the noise.

I travel for work so time is valuable. The foam was $3 and less than a minute to install. If I decide it works then I'll figure out a better material to fill the gap. This isn't worth my time of phone calls and multiple discussions with service departments over wind noise.

    LS1 swap with nitros.
Try running the blower on recirculate. It won't go away but much less noise as the rear vent flaps will be closed and less road notice comes into the cab.

I'm sure they will come out with a TSB for it, Toyota Service Bulletin. Screwing with it yourself seems more time consuming, and a not a sure fix, but that's just me. Hope it works out.

Hopefully they do. I don't see any point for the channel in the moulding. Maybe they can make a replacement

I think the channel is meant to divert rain up and over the truck so water doesn't come in a partly open window. My 2004 Tacoma had the channel but when I had the windshield replaced they used a flat insert and water would dribble/splash in if my window was partly open (didn't before).

I have the same noise. But I know its not from the A pillar ,my wires for roof lights go into that channel. I let someone drive the car while i sat in the back seat. The noise is definitely coming from behind the seats.

There is a lot of noise that comes from behind the seats when you lay the seats down because the back of the cab has no sound insulation. Toyota's depending on the seat cushions to be the acoustic absorber. I know this because I removed the interior of my truck a couple weeks ago for some aftermarket projects.

The channels on the sides of the window frame are to channel rain water up and over the top of the cab rather than push the rain around to the side windows. It's useful to us guys living in rainy regions.

    Here is my final update.

I put 500 miles on a 2017 Chevy Impala last week. It was not the base model Impalas, and it was a nicer appearing car than my Tacoma. Anyway, it had much more road noise than my truck does. Much more.
So, I'm over it and I am done worrying about wind noise that is also apparent in some other brand new vehicles.
