Hey all, new to the forums. Just bought a used 2011 Tacoma TX TRD. I noticed that it has some strange looking wear or damage to the trim around the windows on both sides and around the rear window. Is this common? I'd like to find a solution to either get rid of this somehow or either replace this trim if it's not a super time consuming job. Any advice?

Is that wear, or a result of something like mold?

I honestly can't tell. I've tried cleaning it with different cleaners to no avail. It's like something ate away at it. It has a rough texture where it looks that way but doesn't seem to wipe off. I was thinking of trying to sand it, but idk.

I also thought it might be sun/heat damage.

Almost looks like salt corrosion. What's it look like underneath on the frame?

edit: wait a minute... is that the inside of your truck?

If you do a search on here you'll find it's a common issue even with 1st gens. Most call it mold, some say sun damage, whatever...a good scrubbin should take most of it off

Try using one of the Mr. Clean magic erasers. Wet the molding and the eraser. Do this before you wash your truck, then wash afterward. Try to avoid rubbing the eraser on the painted surfaces.

Then keep it treated with liquid silicone or aerospace 303.

Truck is in mint condition, everywhere except for this molding. That's the outside rear window.

I have a bit of this on the four door windows, but not as badly. Armorall masks it, I will try a magic eraser, it doesn't look like it would take sanding or paint well as it has a rubbery feel...my back window trim is mint condition
